This, though, is where Barboy's hypothetical falls apart when you think about it.

A comparison to Westboro "making camp" near an abortion clinic would hold up nicely if it were AL QUADA who were pitching their tent near ground zero.

Or, conversely, you need to take offense at ALL Baptist churches being in the vicinity of hate crime locations (AND accuse them of doing it on purpose).

Sorry, Barboy. Big fail on this one.

This is what I was thinking. The proper analogy would be to ask if we would disagree with any Baptist church going up.

Or, is barboy implying that this particular Islamic center group was responsible for the 9/11 attacks?

You are implying that Islam is LESS controversial than Christianity...

Especially in this country? Really? (Yes I am lumping christian sects together as one deal with it)

I don't even have a reaction image for how stupid that is.

Nice idea, but who exactly is supposed to put it up? The city? The federal gov't? In both cases, easier said than done.

The proposed center has been planned for a while and is ready to go. It could start soon, but for this opposition. There's really no rational reason to oppose it, though obviously we've seen the emotional reasons.

As someone said, this is pretty much a ginned up controversy. The site isn't even actually AT the WTC site anyway, but a couple of blocks away. Some people are saying they're okay with a mosque further away, which doesn't quite make sense. If two blocks isn't enough somehow, is four? Eight? How large does this "Muslim-free zone" have to be?

Well according to some (I feel a lot of people against this feel the same way) America should be a "muslim-free zone"

Because freedom of religion and all that jazz means a country built on ONLY christian values, anything else should just gtfo.

I dont get what you mean by this? Its not like the government is putting this up. Its a PRIVATE Muslim organization. Shouldnt they be able to put up whatever they want as long as they have the money and permission to do it?

And in that regard, it doesnt stop any Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or whatever organization to build something there as well, so what does it matter?

That's sort of how I feel about the whole worship our Lord or you will burn in a lake of fire for all eternity crowd. Although since they don't threaten with bodily harm they are easier to ignore.

That is but the extreme end of ALL religions and their transgressions (at least the major ones).

The Catholic Church lies to its' membership, insisting that birth control in general is evil and will send you to hell (even if you're married), but they don't stop there...they insist that condoms make aids more likely (a sickening lie), leading millions of Africans to their graves in devout obedience.

Is that better or worse than what the Muslims do?
