We went for the ones with the rust-colored mats because we are hoping to get away from the Americana bedding eventually, and more to the theme we want. But, they are big and we aren't sure if both will work. We also got a few cute bags, hats and the like for the kids for a couple of dollars each.

While he hardly ever gives me advice I think that he is slightly off thinking we can get a 30 yr mortgage for no money down and 5-6% interest for the houses/ condos out here. I mean condos run about the high 400s depending on where you go.. and most places the average (again for a 2bdrom condo) is about 600k and up. It really makes me miss our old apt with rent control in Berkeley. =) I agree that we should be owning something 5yrs into this but I also think we should be careful at this point and not jump into anything especially something like a fixed rate mortgage. We're seeing people get bit in the finances either way.. fixed or variable (you have to be careful that the variable rate doesn't work in the lenders favor).

Besides the obvious is there an obscure Gem? Did you read OSC's Ender?<< My usual response when someone asks me for a book recommendation at work is, "Well, that depends. What kind of thing do you like?" I read a few of the "Ender" books. I'm not a big fan of Orson Scott Card's novels, but I highly recommend any of his short story collections. As a short story writer, he's on a par with Asimov and Bradbury, IMNSHO. The original "Ender's Game" short story, in particular, makes the later novel seem bloated by comparison. I'm not big into series these days. There's too much out there that I want to read, and I'm reluctant to commit the time to a series, but some that spring to mind: Harry Potter - I've enjoyed all 6 so far, and I'm eagerly anticipating #7. A Series of Unfortunate Events - I love Daniel Handler/Lemony Snicket's prose, even if the plots meander. Foundation - one of the first and greatest "hard" science fiction trilogies (F, F & Empire, 2nd F). I haven't read the later books; I suppose I'll get around to them some day. Dune - not originally planned as a series, the first book is a classic and stands on its own; the second and third are decent sequels; the later Frank Herbert volumes are ambitious but unfocused; the Brian Herbert volumes are exciting but meaningless brain candy Amber - Roger Zelazny's first pentalogy (starting with "Nine Princes in Amber") is one of my favorite stories, ever. The follow-up is some of Zelazny's worst writing (which still makes it better than most other authors). Discworld - Terry Pratchett's books aren't a "series" in the usual sense; they're all set on the same world, but you can read them in almost any order. Fun, light fantasy. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - The Best Series Ever Dirk Gently - Douglas Adams's "other" series: book 1 is very good, book 2 is *great*, and book 3 was published after his death from unfinished fragments--messy but still worth reading I could go on, but I think that's enough for now.

Amber - Discworld haven't read them. Hitchhikers - I want the radio series as well. Dick I'll give it a shot. I used to be a very avid reader but my life got hectic, now i'm slowing down and wondering what to do with an hour or two a day.

The book as published includes the unfinished novel, plus a selection of short stories, essays, letters, and random scraps of writing found on his computers after he died.
