Keep in mind that the largest social welfare program created in the last 40 years was passed by the Republican Congress and signed by President Bush just in time for the 2004 elections. I'm of course referring to the prescription drug coverage for seniors. Not only did it create an entirely new and very large federal entitlement, it was completely unfunded, so the entire cost of it just gets added to the national debt each yaer. And, the law actually prohibits the gov't from using its buying power to negotiate better drug prices. So if you're against the gov't being involved in health care, are concerned about entitlements and the national debt, why would you continue to vote Republican?
