"When we realized that there were still Disneyland attractions that didn't have any Disney or Pixar characters in them, we decided to put our "Disney Relevanticity(R)" into action and place seemingly unrelated characters into a classic attraction," noted a Disney spokesperson, "Our valued guests will wonder why we didn't do this in the first place!" At first glance, the all new "Disney-Pixar Mater-horn, Inspired by the Disney-Pixar film Cars" won't look much different. In fact, the only sign that anything has changed will be the gigantic revolving "Mater" placed atop the mountain, welcoming guests to the park by shouting 'Howdy Y'all!' every fifteen minutes. "This will serve as a reminder to our valued guests that this is Disneyland Park, where Disney branded dreams come true every day," noted Disney Imagineer Santos L. Halper, "They will love how we relevantized this classic attraction." The old fashioned bobsleds will be replaced by trucks themed to look like Mater. "The Mater ride vehicles will make small talk with our beloved guests, saying funny lines from the Disney-Pixar films and suggesting various dining and shopping experiences they might want to participate in while they're here at the resort. He'll also remind them to smile when they pass the new PhotoPass camera so that they can take home a nice picture or twenty to cherish their day in Disneyland park." noted the Imagineer. Gone will be the forbidding Abominable Snowman who has frightened guests since the 1970's. In its place will be the cuddly "Duffy Bear" who, instead of raising his arm to frighten guests, will beckon them in a friendly manner, encouraging them to examine the basket of Duffy memorabilia he's carrying. "Our magnificent guests are always telling us how they want to save time while in the Disney parks, so we worked in an opportunity for them to see the vast array of Duffy merchandise while also experiencing a classic, re-imagined attraction." "We'll also have a nod to the old Matterhorn when Mater will say the exact same safety spiel from the original ride, asking guests to remain seated. Sure, we'll be accused of just using the same audio clip because we couldn't get Larry the Cable Guy to re-record one for free, but trust me when I say this is a tribute to the old attraction." The attraction is scheduled to re-open in time for the Holiday season, when the park promises a special themed overlay will be installed. “It will be amazing,” noted a park spokesman, “We’ll put Santa hats on all the Maters and Duffys! Truly a magical experience for our honored guests!”

I'm sure they can figure out how to keep the lift dark enough so you can't see too much of the mountain hardware like in the original.
