    Because you said yourself that it will be closed for half of July and all of August. Presumably that means it will reopen in September. It's already been stated that it will close again in January and reopen in June. What else do you need to know?

    Pretty much what I'm thinking. And considering that you just went in January I think having one attraction closed, even if it is your favorite, shouldn't make or break your visit.

    Yeah, go figure.

    It makes a whole lot of difference to me. I don't know when I'll be able to go again, and if I'm going for free just one time, I want it to be a complete experience. Besides, if I use the passes now, I'll miss an opportunity to use them when the Matterhorn will be open. Since it will be closed for half a year, I don't want to miss one chance.
