You guys turned me on to Top Chef and Top Chef Masters which I'm DVR'ing now. And Hell's Kitchen starts next week. Does anyone read Bob Tuschman's blog or Suzie's video q&a? Bob really wanted to dump Debbie this week but the other two guys thought her food was the best and enough to keep her in. My take on Next Food Network Star so far: Personally, I like Jeffrey's demeanor. I would like to see a show where he teaches me how to cook something I will like. Doesn't need to be in-your-face; doesn't need to be funny or gimicky; just needs to be natural and intelligent sounding. Melissa seems to be pretty smart with lots of tips and good food but here voice starts to grate on my nerves. Jamika....I liked her at the beginning but she's either hot or cold. I don't think she has the toughness to see things through on this show. Can't stand Debbie. Lying about the shopping in the first episode, playing victim in the pan-in-the-face episode (she should have said "behind you") and now this past episode is enough in my book to dismiss her. If she ends up winning I will absolutely refuse to watch her show. Soooo glad Michael is gone. That kind of personality is fun at a pary for a few minutes but that's it.

How, exactly, does preparing and serving several hundred h'ordervs (sp) prepare someone to be a Food Network personality? I can understand multiple plates for the judges, but it really looked to me that the Food Network execs wanted cheap help at a party.

I can see where a challenge like this can be beneficial. You want to see some effort at teamwork, thiking under pressure, working under pressure. It even might help the execs determine what kind of show a person might be suited to (ie, one person show standing behind a stove and oooking a meal versus the Mission Impossible type show that Robert Irvin did).

I liked Michael OK but he was grating at times and he did freeze in front of the camera. Jamica seems to be full of nerves. She might be able to pull it off with help. I'm liking Melissa and Jeffrey. Melissa could do well with a "Sara's Secrets" type show. My mom and my DD LOVED to watch Sara, I'm not sure her show is still on. Jeffrey could do just about any "theme." Hmmm, the mom and the real estate agent seem to be the most at ease with the camera. Interesting. LOL! about the cheap help at the party. I cracked up watching the "sharks" running for the food at the party. If it was supposed to be drinks and appetizers wouldn't people know that it wasn't a meal? I didn't get the "I'm hungry" stuff.

I've never seen Alton Brown prepare a meal for 75 guests, or the Neeley's throw a party for 50 people with 60 minutes notice. I'm not saying it's not entertaining, it is, and if your style is 'Kitchen Impossible', then great, but most of these people would like a show like Rachael Ray, where you stop filming if you encounter a problem.

My guess is that they have to deal with, make up artists, "sous chefs", producers, the public, editors, etc. and need to think on their feet and not tick people off. I doubt they ever do anything like they did this week. I'd like to go to the Neely's party if they do or Paula Deens
