Did I get it right? (I was highly trained in the christian arts as a kid)

One question (I think the prayer is a cool one, actually...for the most part), WHY would you have to pray to god to not lead you into temptation?

Why would god do such a thing?

Isn't it insulting to insinuate that he might (unless you plead for him not to)?

That's the one part of an otherwise cool sentiment that I think is kind of jacked.

But on the other hand, looking at the old testament it's entirely reasonable for one to pray that god doesn't screw with them, please.

(god has been known to do that according to myth, sometimes just for his own amusement, or to prove something to the devil or whatever...)

(actually, "blessed" sounds better to me, but I've got a tape recorder in my brain that insists that it must be "hallowed" lol)

I would rather be highly trained in the jedi arts :)

And X I guess you got the spiel right.....well it sounds right anyway based on my ex's use who expected me to know it----- but I could give a rats ass about it.

Ah yes..... the days of old being surrounded by ritualistic faith holders.

Forgive me X as it has been 8 years since my last visit to the stained glass, pews, altar, robes, smoke, Christ on a stick, latin house.

As to 'blessed' vs 'hallowed' I do believe you are correct now that I think about it.

OT, I know, but this has been bothering me:

Is it just me, or has the senator's speaking style become a bit more "ethnic" over the course of his campaign? When I first heard him speak, back in 2004, I thought he sounded like a bit like Harry Truman--a typical, flat, Midwestern lawyer's voice. This year, he seems more, I guess he would say "impassioned," but I think most people would say "black."

    Anybody?

That's a pretty darn good observation and question. My guess is to emphasize the humans on the "lead us" and "but deliver us from evil" parts.

We Protestant heathens have the same prayer; we just take out "trespass" and substitute "debt" and "debtors."

I fully believe mrkthmpsn could have composed this. It's not all that clever, it's full of assumptions that aren't in synch with reality, and if it sounds like something any dittohead could have written... well, probably any dittohead COULD have.

Could be worse: At least we won't be recycling the old Clinton jokes. ;-)

You could have him be the annoying smartest kid in the class, knowing ahead of time that Iraq was a bad idea.

The Lord's Prayer? Maybe I'm missing the reference.

To spoof John McCain, you could have him saying how he doesn't like to mention his time as a POW, and yet everyone in America knows the story by heart now, so SOMEone's telling it.

But maybe mrkthompson would construct a new reading of The Act of Contrition for McCain.
