I am feeling pretty *zoney* so hopefully it will last. And for you too Smedley. I need to get my butt back in the exercise zone though. We have walked to the post office two evenings in a row. That is good but not what I need to help my hip and back pain.

My sister had to diet into a bridesmaid dress once, and it was no fun. The original bridesmaid had bowed out. And for some reason, the bride wouldn't order a bridesmaid dress for my sister. My sister was told she had to fit into that dress.

    I would have refused.

The good news is since it's obviously a problem with the manufacturers, if I can't fit the dress they'll send replacements... but hopefully I won't have a problem and it will just fit me straight off! Being extra-good this week to make up for last week when I went a little off the rails, so fingers crossed :) And still thinking those skinny thoughts, of course!

I've been pretty happy with myself, to be honest. I started a new job on Monday and we had staff room parties each day - first day with lamington scrolls (link for my non-Australian friends! http://bronmarshall.com/wp-con...hall.jpg) and the second day with another type of cake (I tried to not even find out, but it looked like some kind of orange cake) and Cadbury chocolates. Both times these little temptations were put RIGHT in front of me! Anyway, both days I reached for the cake / chocolates, then pulled my hand back. Although I wanted it, the temptation wasn't nearly as strong as it would have been six months ago!

Oh, and you know how I said my bridesmaid dress was made wrong? I can't recall if I said, but there's four inches less material along the waist. I finally tried mine on last week and it fit perfectly! It actually looked better than when I last tried it on, about 10lbs ago, despite the fabric issue. I definitely can't stand to put on an ounce, though, but hopefully I'll lose at least a few more kilos in the next 5 and a half weeks! (Side note, WOW, Mary! Your brother's fiance?! That's a bit wrong!)

Public holiday today, so I'm going to go pick up my new treadmill from the shops and deliver the old, less impressive one to my niece :D

iamsally, I seem to have adopted your scale obsession. I've been weighing every day lately. It's because I've been hovering around "weight x" and I want to see if I can get down below that magic number. I can't stop myself!! I'll try to be good until my official weigh day of Sunday, though, but eh, I know I'll probably weigh tomorrow. I was two ounces over the magic number this morning and I need to see it get below!!

I am feeling really stuck ! It seems that no matter what I do I just can't shake the last few pounds. I am about 6 lbs away from goal and they just won't go away. I have been eating reasonably well and within points and doing the same exercise that has worked all along and now I am getting frustrated which is only leading to giving in to yummy treats because it won't make any difference anyhow. Even though I know it is self defeating I still do it. ahh
    end of whine.

Liberty Belle, great about the dress. Nothing beats fitting into smaller clothes and looking better. I am wearing the same shirts from last summer but now they hang right instead of accentuating my muffin top.

I have been cheating with both food and exercise but haven't been able to stop and as a consequence have put back on around 6 kilos from my lowest weight.

I have now started the Dukan diet from France which claims to rewire your brain so you don't crave the bad foods and are not as hungry all the time. I didn't buy the book, just picked up the information from various web sites.

I'm on my 2nd day now and feeling all zoney but if anyone is interested I can post a daily report with full details on how it's all going so you can see if this may help any of you?

Well apparently this Dr Pierre Dukan invented the diet 30 years ago for a meat-loving friend of his that needed to lose weight and it worked so well that he tweaked it a bit for everyone to use. It's very similar to the Atkins diet but much safer because you are still eating healthy i.e. low fats. There are four stages to the diet, #1 the attack stage which lasts between 2-5 days (or 7 days if you are over 100 kilos) depending on how much weight you have to lose. During this stage you can only eat protein, 1.5 tablespoons of oat bran (I mix it in a little yoghurt) and 1.5 -2 litres of water a day (to keep you, ahem, regular). So I am eating grilled chicken breasts, grilled fish, low fat ham, eggs (one a day if you have cholesterol problems, if not as many as you like), low fat beef and you can eat no fat dairy as well. You can eat as much as you like as long as you stick to these foods and you are supposed to do 20 minutes of walking daily. I'm only on the 2nd day but have lost 2 kilos in that time.

The 2nd stage is the cruise stage where you eat all of the above as well as low carb vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, brussell sprouts, french beans, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, mushrooms, asparagus and cabbage. Absolutely no potatoes, carrots, peas or corn! The walking is bumped up to 30 minutes a day now and put the oat bran up to 2 tablespoons. You stay on this stage for around 5-10 weeks until you get to your goal weight.

I can't remember the details of stage 3 but it's called the stabilize stage and you can introduce pasta meals 1 or 2 times a week and you get 1 day where you can eat whatever you like and I believe you have 1 or 2 protein only days as well.

The final stage I'm a little more fuzzy on because I was anxious to start and wanted to commit the first two stages to memory but I believe you then go back to eating normally as long as you have 1 protein only day each week (say Thursdays).

Apparently French woman have been successfully using this diet for 30 years and it has the added benefit of re-wiring your brain to not want all the sugary foods anymore. It is making me feel a lot more energenic, healthier and I'm sleeping more soundly at night after only a day and a half so fingers crossed.

You are allowed unlimited tea, coffee and herbal teas with or without skim milk and aspartame based sweetners (even in diet sodas).

I think I've passed on everything but if there's anything I haven't covered just ask me :)

I almost forgot the obvious thing, all foods should be prepared using low fat methods like boiling, grilling, steaming or dry roasting but you can use a little cooking spray in a frying pan as well. Also you can work out your own program length and what they suggest is your "true weight" at their site
    http://www.dukandiet.co.uk

It's free but you will get a couple of emails wanting you to pay for a personalized program which I just ignored.
