I posted it on another thread, but as someone who does volunteer, I know I am not changing the whole world, but I think it's important for everyone to help in their community. To see that jeered at was a slap in the face, but par for the course from this convention. That's why I enjoyed being a bit jeering right back at 'em in this thread last night. They earned it.

I don't think it's much to ask. This was an empty convention, little substance. I could have easily added comments to the Demo convention too but frankly it was more compelling so I was watching more intently. I have no qualms in saying that. Obama has been ripped and shredded apart in these threads leading up to the conventions so save the sad human beings part. I think its sad to keep repeating Sarah Palin is HOT but to each his own.

Originally Posted By Kar2oonMan Obama has been ripped and shredded apart in these threads leading up to the conventions so save the sad human beings part.<< Exactly. And you'll notice that Obama has been pretty "above the fray" as he is attacked like crazy. That says a lot too. McCain laughed and cheered and flung the mud plenty, and Sarah Palin "introduced" herself to America with a mean-spirited barn burner that everyone in the GOP did backflips of joy over. "America's Most Popular Governor" LOL! Sounded like Ann Coulter II to me. So yeah, lecture us on how mean we are jeering back at the GOP convention. I'll tune up my violin.

You know I was really moved by hearing McCain tell his story. And what struck me about it was here was a politician actually admitting his failure. But if some of you want to mock that than go right ahead. As for the community organizer comments yes they came across as snarky. But it's the belief that can somehow make you qualified to be President it doesn't.

Speaking only for myself, I was using my American right to free speech last night and I stand by every thing I said and I'd gladly say it again. Mrs. Palin was using her platform of speaking out and I was using mine. Plus, I can't help it if you didn't think of it first.

Not because it's about McCain's service, but because it's about this attitude that we can't be critical of someone who was once in the military. Obama is forced to acknowledge McCain's service every 5 minutes because he knows if he doesn't, the GOP will turn him into a soldier-hater. Mind, this is the height of hypocrisy given the '04 election. But DAR, I'm sure you were equally defensive of John Kerry, right? If we go look, maybe we'll find post after post attacking the Swiftboaters and telling us that you will definitely be voting Democrat because "Kerry gets to play that card for the rest of his life." Or is it only Republican soliders who are deserving of your adulation?

If you read what I wrote about it, I said I'm sure McCain had waited his entire political life to be able to talk about it at just that moment. His problem was that so many others had already done it for him by the time he was able to realize his dream, it had been done to death.

He's a hero that doesn't necessarily qualify him to be President of this country or give him a free pass.

But it continues still.

Oh, sure he can play that card anytime he wants for the rest of his life. But the impact will be decreased with each abuse of it.

Limbaugh and all the right wing pundits who used to blast "liberal" McCain can't stop telling his POW story now, even though he was mocked and belittled CONSTANTLY even during this primary, until he won. What does the GOP think, everyone forgets this stuff? So sorry, but the "hero" stuff now feels like too little too late. I'm glad McCain feels honored by it. But look at the tape. You see people in the audience bored with it during Thompson's speech, chatting, getting up to use the restroom or something, disengaged. They respect his service insofar as it helps the GOP win the White House, nothing more. I think this phony "honoring" is worse than none at all.
