I sure don't hate her, in fact I think she's pretty hot.

However, not fit for the VP spot based on experience and credentials (absolutely unproven and untested on an international stage), and I think it was damned irresponsible for McCain to select her.

Country First my ass. He couldn't care less, so long as he getss elected (and yes, the gamble just might pay off...I doubt it, but it's possible. that's what scares me).

I'm just hoping for some tone of moderation after last night's nastiness. Much more Lieberman, far less Limbaugh. I want to be reminded of why I ever liked John McCain.

I hear ya, 2oony... I'm hoping the former McCain is still in there somewhere.

I think we all want the same thing, right? For Obama or McCain to bring us back where we belong (yeah, yeah... Joe Cocker... *L*) and not drive us any further into the pit.

Considering that this is such a desperate sentiment, can I assume you are supporting Obama for President?

That'd be impossible, since Obama is well tested and proven on an international stage.

Try and stick to the facts, could ya?

I must have missed something. What international experience does he have besides one speech in Germany?

All possible energy sources my butt. If so, why did he fail to vote for alternate energy sources 8 times this year alone?

    <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/13/opinion/13friedman.html?_r=3&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&oref=slogin&oref=slogin&oref=slogin" target="_blank">http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08...f=slogin</a>

"It was only five days earlier, on July 30, that the Senate was voting for the eighth time in the past year on a broad, vitally important bill — S. 3335 — that would have extended the investment tax credits for installing solar energy and the production tax credits for building wind turbines and other energy-efficiency systems."

    (snip)

"Senator McCain did not show up for the crucial vote on July 30, and the renewable energy bill was defeated for the eighth time. In fact, John McCain has a perfect record on this renewable energy legislation. He has missed all eight votes over the last year — which effectively counts as a no vote each time. Once, he was even in the Senate and wouldn’t leave his office to vote.

“McCain did not show up on any votes,” said Scott Sklar, president of The Stella Group, which tracks clean-technology legislation. Despite that, McCain’s campaign commercial running during the Olympics shows a bunch of spinning wind turbines — the very wind turbines that he would not cast a vote to subsidize, even though he supports big subsidies for nuclear power.

Barack Obama did not vote on July 30 either — which is equally inexcusable in my book — but he did vote on three previous occasions in favor of the solar and wind credits.

The fact that Congress has failed eight times to renew them is largely because of a hard core of Republican senators who either don’t want to give Democrats such a victory in an election year or simply don’t believe in renewable energy."

    (snip)

"One of the biggest canards peddled by Big Oil is that, “Sure, we’ll need wind and solar energy, but it’s just not cost effective yet.” They’ve been saying that for 30 years. What these tax credits are designed to do is to stimulate investments by many players in solar and wind so these technologies can quickly move down the learning curve and become competitive with coal and oil — which is why some people are trying to block them."

    (snip)

"That is what this election should be focusing on. Everything else is just bogus rhetoric designed by cynical candidates who think Americans are so stupid — so bloody stupid — that if you just show them wind turbines in your Olympics ad they’ll actually think you showed up and voted for such renewable power — when you didn’t."

Goober's leaving a big ol' mess behind on his way out. I don't care who steps up to clean it, as long as the job gets done.

Yes, that was a GREAT clip, and tells you all you need to know about Mr. Karl Rove.

There are other examples of GOP hypocrisy here as well, but none tops ol' Karl.

There's another clip about Republicans looking for gay sex in St. Paul from last night that's also very funny. If you didn't know, it's based on a profusion of personals ads on Craigslist (no, not Larry Craig's list!) saying things like "In St. Paul for the convention; 34, blonde, buff, looking for fun; not a Log Cabiner, so must be DISCREET, wife can't know." There were a lot of ads like this, which is just sad. Not that they're gay, of course; that they're still subjecting themselves to the tyranny of the closet.

Speaking of teleprompters - did any one else notice how many times last night you could actually see the words on the teleprompters when they would show a shot from behind Palin? The whole thing looked totally unprofessional - and quite a contrast to the professional and polished camera work at the DNC. I was almost embarrassed for the Republicans.

Let's stop pretending like Sarah Palin gave a great speech. She gave a Bush speech only, unlike Bush, she's not an idiot (whatever else you might say about her). She can string two sentences together without sounding like my 6 year old trying to sound out words.

She didn't write the speech (unlike Obama, mind you), she just stood up and delivered it.

That's my project for next week, after the Palin and friends show runs its course. I'm going to do some research on what sort of merchandise these two sides are really peddlin'. I've downloaded both party's platforms and will also try and find some 3rd party sites that analyze the economic plans without all the BS. (There MUST be such a thing.)

There does seem to be quite a discrepancy on how each side interprets what the other is going to do tax-wise. I've been optimistically assuming that the Democrats' "tax increases" consist almost exclusively of closing loopholes on the extremely wealthy so they'll pay the same tax rate I do. If true, those are tax increases I can get behind.

Meanwhile the Repubs are going to stay in Iraq until "victory", invest a few bazillion dollars in nuclear power, and lower everybody's taxes, hoping that the Financial Fairy will magically fix our economy to pay for it just like the Democracy Fairy magically brought peace to Iraq.

But I don't know if that's what the actual positions are, and I realize that I'm assuming an awful lot. Maybe I'll be surprised.

Compared to some of what preceded her, she does. But she's no Lieberman, and certainly no Clinton. The only thing she did well was read from a teleprompter. Not for one second did you ever get the impression that they were her words. I don't think she would've noticed if they'd snuck in a recipe for gourmet veggie burgers. She would've read it in the same tone, and the crowd would have gone bananas.

She actually did worse than I was expecting.
