Amanda 3. Asia'h 4. Ramele 5. Alaina 6. Alexandria 7. Brooke 8. Christy 9. Kady 10. Carly 11. Joanne 12. Amy For the guys: 1. Michael 2. David A 3. Jason C 4. David C 5. Robbie 6. David H 7. Colton 8. Chikeze 9. Jason Y 10. Danny 11. Luke 12. Garrett

And is it just me, or does she have the creepiest, deadest eyes? Joanne Borgella: Her song got away from her. She kind of disappeared on the low notes, and was a bit shrieky on the high ones. Maybe it was just nerves. Alaina Whitaker: She has such a pure sweet voice, and it was a great song choice. She needs to watch the simpering, though. Amanda Overmyer: What??? What was that? Amy Davis: This was just a dreadful, dreadful performance. Wobbly, flat, scooping and sliding into notes. Bye bye! Brooke White: Not a good song choice, but a really good voice. She needs to be more confident. Alexandrea Lushington: A good, powerful voice in a very confident performance. Kady Mallory: A solid, if ordinary performance. Some of her facial expressions were a bit alarming. Asia'h Epperson: Wonderful performance. Pushed a little on the high notes, but otherwise a very good job. Ramele Malubay: Great performance. Nice build to a big finish. I was a little worried that it was going a bit karaoke at the beginning. Syesha Mercado: Wow! Good presence, great performance. She really brought it home. Carly Smithson: Good song choice. What a fabulous, pure voice. My only minor criticism is that she needs to avoid wincing when she hits the high notes. (And Simon is wrong!) After a couple of dull performances, the girls were really quite good tonight. Amy Davis, obviously, needs to go home. Then, perhaps, Kristy or Joanne. But it's hard to say, aside from Amy, that there are any truly bad singers in this bunch.

Any word on any of the oher themes this year?

Also very good were Syesha, Ramele, Asia'h, and Carly (yes, Simon WAS wrong). The second half of the show was a lot stronger than the first half. Ramele gets extra degree of difficulty points for her song, which doomed the very talented Stephanie last year. The others ranged from only okay to pretty good (though I think Joanne was better than she showed - major nerves problem last night), with the exception of Amy, who was just awful. I mean, she wasn't even in the same freaking zip code as the pitch. I think she leaves tonight (unless America is also tone deaf), and maybe Kristy, who has the triple whammy of going first, being forgettable, and having those creepy eyes.

And the girls were better than the guys on balance. This is not the most talented group they've ever had, but they pretty much have to say that if they don't want their ratings to erode any more, I think.

I wish the teeny-boppers who vote on this stuff would grow a little in their tastes. Yes, I know Clarkson has sold a bunch of CD's. But even Clarkson moved away from pop after her first CD which probably counts for her longevity and continued sales.
