Also, that area serves as a staging area for supplying the entire back half of the park..I would assume it's pretty necessary.

I think for it to happen, it would have to displace the current structure somehow.

I do know that if they ever want to build a major E-ticket attraction or a "mini-land", there is sufficient space in the large parking lot right outside the park, between the MiraCosta and the show building for the Broadway Music Theatre.

And then there is that huge plot of land besides Lost River Delta, which I hear is going to the next major expansion of Port Discovery (possibly a large roller coaster). And there are chances that Lost River Delta might get a share of that land for a water ride of some kind. All in all, DisneySea has a bright future with many possible choices for the next logical E-ticket attraction and expansion. I can't wait to see what they have planned in the next few years!

There are other factors to consider, particularly the reclaimed land issue it occurs to me. Just because there appears to be "space" doesn't mean that zone is qualified to be anything more than pavement or whatever is there at present.

On the other hand, I hope you're right! :)

It did close last year because a large chunk of the stucco on the outside fell off. They have since torn off the stucco covering both arches. To my knowledge they haven't reopened it, but I was at LAX last week and there were definately people inside it with the normal mood lights on, and it looked like they were having dinner. I don't know if it was a special event or if it's permanently open, but it does seem like they are making a lot of progress.

But I always though that the Imagineers would allocate enough space for expansion of the park for years to come, as opposed to building everything at once. It's supposed to be a general step when designing a park.

And I love all the little tricks Imagineers used to get around the limited space, such as bypassing the berm and having show buildings in an areas outside the park. But I also dislike the fact that right now, any new attraction that is built requires the removal of an old one.
