In such cases a family trip may require the kids come back from break late, or miss school during the year. It's not necesscarily ideal, but it's not so black and white as you portray it. In Obama's case, his vacation was delayed because of the health care bill negotiations. His work obligations prevented his vacation time from matchings that of his kids. Is it so bad that his kids subsequently missed half a day of school in order to spend some time with their father?

I think its healthy and makes for a more productive and loyal employee. My parents pulled us out of school at all different times for vacations, field trips, even to watch a movie that had a message they deemed important for us to see. I think we turned out pretty okay and so will the Obama girls. As for the original post - this is just beyond stupid to me. He took vacation, um there's been other presidents who've taken way more time than he has so far. Where's the outcry? He's never really on vacation. Anyone who thinks that is naive.

The writer seemed to be appalled that the President wasn't able to relax while on vacation. I simply addressed the fact it won't happen until his term is done. <<My parents pulled us out of school at all different times for vacations, field trips, even to watch a movie that had a message they deemed important for us to see.>> And there's nothing wrong with that, but when the work or school week starts up if you're expected to be there you show up.
