What we're hearing about now is a bunch of "inside the campaign" stuff, and as the reporters have said what was told to them was "off the record". Seems lame, but I can sort of dig this side of things on the whole reporter/politician spectrum. If people were not able to say ANYTHING to reporters without fear of seeing it show up online minutes later, I would guess the natural reaction would be for people not to speak at all (BAD for "free press"). If they have that whole "off the record" option, they can relax and speak more freely and become a little more friendly with the reporters who are covering them and I think that helps things in the long run. This whole "DON'T SAY A WORD..til the campaign is over" though, is a little ridiculous at this point. AND, I agree that some of this is stuff that we voters SHOULD HAVE KNOW, right? So, anyway it's a fine line and it's tough to say much about whether "this" was okay but "that" wasn't. I think the press gave us ample evidence of Palin incompetence, in any case. Already they get slammed as "the liberal media", so there doesn't seem to be much point in making their point FAR MORE than we as voters really need in order to understand that she was a complete idiot (I knew that LONG before these latest revelations, THANKS to the media reports and her own words...didn't everyone?).
