I think Douglas just proved that it's a darn good thing that McCain wasn't elected because he's not very good at reading people or picking the right people to work with. Thanks Doug!

It wasn't until he selected Palin that they got excited about the ticket. If there is truth in this report that McCain didn't want to go down the Ayers/Wright road, this will further underscore that McCain is a liberal (in the minds of the neocons).

If he can be forced to campaign in a way that he doesn't want to do, how in the heck would he be a good President?

Nicely done, Doug. Much like Bill O'Reilly, you are hedging your bets and keeping your options open for a potentially powerful Sarah Palin. I wouldn't bother if I were you, though. I don't think she has a prayer. Particularly not after a spending spree on the doners' dimes. You think THEY'RE going to want to give her money for her efforts? I think not. Anyway, if you want to get behind a person who thinks Africa is a country and doesn't know which countries (all three of em) make up the continent she lives on...please do. More fodder for comedy here in WE, that's for sure.

I know I seem permanently cranky here sometimes beating the same drum- but really this is all I wanted to hear. I looked at John McCain as not a perfect candidate - but acceptable to be sure ( when this started) - and held out all hopes that Joe Lieberman would be the running mate. Now I don't believe Joe is a dynamic vote getter, but to me and others I know more closely represented our thoughts. Socially centrist - fiscally conservative. Right of center on some things - left on others, but never far off center. Even if they lost I thought it would be a good start to returning my party. When Palin was chosen, I'll be perfectly honest, I had no idea who the heck she was - not at all. Then as that became clearer i felt betrayed all over again. As I said, not sure what's going to happen - but if the GOP continues to cater to the far right, my prediction is they will become insignificant from a national standpoint by 2012- and surely by 2016. Just sad. If I didn't need to declare to vote in primaries - I'd likely list independent at this point in time.
