Can you remember the original version of Tomorrowland? I remember parking with my grandparents in their truck with the camper, and then walking right to the main gate. It only took five minutes. There was no DD or DCA at that time. Can you remember E Ticket rides? Remember when the DL hotel was the only one on property? I stayed there on Prom night with four other giggly senior girls in a suite (We ditched our collective dates to go play) While this makeover may commercialize a "classic" ride, most of Disneyland is and has always been commercialized anyway. The reasons we love Disneyland are beyond that. It is the ability to be a kid no matter what your age. It is the magic of shared family experiences that you hold forever. It is the discovery or rediscovery of a place where it is safe to be a child in a world that has few places specifically for that. I will miss the old ride (I had the record which included the book you looked through while you played the record). I have many memories that include the ride and my grandparents (now deceased). But this August I will take my two year old to begin her memories. And when the ride re-opens this winter I will be taking her on it. And who knows, maybe in twenty years she will be saying "I remember the It's A Small World ride as it was. Now would you look at what they are doing?" (Perhaps It's a Small Galaxy? LOL)

That's one of my favorite things about the Christmas version - having a couple other songs breaking up the monotony of the same small world theme over and over about 20 times per ride. Hearing some other themes woven into the fabric will be kinda cool, I'm thinking!

Instead of little kids around the world coming together, it's becoming Disney's conquest of the globe. No one is really that much better than the other if you want to look at it in the simplest terms. I just personally prefer the more traditional version of it, and I really have to question the character additions in HKDL, where people aren't as familiar with Disney's characters and a lot of the characters wouldn't really stand out if you didn't already know them.
Originally Posted By Hans Reinhardt "I don't think many people have anything new for their argument, no matter which side." Yeah, and it literally came to a halt when pictures of what we might expect to see at DLR were posted. Mary Blair's family even made a public statement against the changes. Where is Mary Blair's family now that the HKDL publicity shots have been released? I agree with your opinion 100% - it does change the attraction's meaning - but after looking at the pictures I can't say that it is the artistic desecration that some people were saying it might be. At least not at HKDL.
Originally Posted By mawnck >>I don't think many people have anything new for their argument, no matter which side.<< It never was about how the characters looked, and I thought I had made that clear in my 7 million posts, as did Mary Blair's family in their open letter. There's more to "artistic desecration" (your term, not mine) than just not matching the draperies. The pictures were exactly what I expected, and I'm just as against it (for Anaheim) now as I was before. HKDL, hey, whatever. You want to draw a nose ring on Mona Lisa, fine with me as long as it's not the original. But you're right - I've got nothing new, and there's really no arguing with folks who say it's fine with them to toss out Walt's original vision for IASW so long as little Caitlin can see Cinderella for the 5,000th time today. It's just a fundamental difference of opinion, and I don't think either side is going to argue the other out of it.
