"Whoever defames our prophet should be executed," said Ismail Hassan, 37, a tailor who marched through the pouring rain along with hundreds of others in the West Bank city of Ramallah. "Bin Laden our beloved, Denmark must be blown up," protesters in Ramallah chanted. In mosques throughout Palestinian cities, clerics condemned the cartoons. An imam at the Omari Mosque in Gaza City told 9,000 worshippers that those behind the drawings should have their heads cut off. "If they want a war of religions, we are ready," Hassan Sharaf, an imam in Nablus, said in his sermon. About 10,000 demonstrators, including gunmen from the Islamic militant group Hamas firing in the air, marched through Gaza City to the Palestinian legislature, where they climbed on the roof, waving green Hamas banners. "We are ready to redeem you with our souls and our blood our beloved prophet," they chanted. "Down, Down Denmark."

It is against the Islaamic religion to depict Mohammed. So the Danish cartoonists made it their point to depict Mohammed. It was an organized effort, not some spontaneous case of a single cartoonist who happened to include a drawing of Mohammed in a panel. The group effort was designed to make a statement, to be "in their faces," not to be funny. I certainly don't approve of Muslims reacting to the cartoons by taking hostages, destroying property, or encouraging or commiting acts of violence. At the same time, I find it very interesting that those who would belittle and demonize Muslims for being offended are the very same posters here who complain about liberals attacking Christian values in the United States. What if your local newspaper ran an editorial stating that Christians have for too long prevented freedom of expression via their demands that they must never be offended -- and, to force his point, the editor printed a cartoon of the Virgin Mary enjoying herself in a crack house? What if your hometown newspaper ran a cartoon in which the artist illustrated his belief that Christianity contritutes to the marginalization of gays in the US by depicting Matthew Sheppard tied to a fence with Jesus Christ swinging a baseball bat into his head? If people were offended by these cartoons, would you sneeringly suggest that they just get over it?

But the funniest part of all of this is how the libs will defend Islam when reality has it that Islam has NO tolerance for Gays, women rights, freedom of speech and other so called important liberal issues. Just another example of why liberals are so out of touch with reality.

Beau's right this time. I think Christians in America are hyper-sensitive and whine about the "liberal media" and everything else. But at the end of the day, they're preaching to the choir over right-wing radio or the 700 Club. Big difference. Muslims in this case are wrong, wrong, wrong, and it's nice to see the world speaking out against the reaction for a change, instead of trying to be tolerant of intolerance.
