But it does get easier. Back then, we didn't have Skype or the internet or cell phones or anything. He didn't get any R&R. And he wasn't allowed to make phone calls either so it was a LONG deployment! He was gone almost 14 months. And all we had were letters. So, at least you can communicate with him on a regular basis. Be glad for that!
I think those support groups will be a big help for you! A lot of others who are going through the same things.
I'll be thinking of you and saying a few prayers for his safety. If there's anything we can send him, while he's there, to make his stay a little easier, just let us know. They probably really look forward to those care packages.

The long deployments for my son and daughter-in-law did end up breaking them up. They just really never had a marriage because every time one came home the other left. And me being an old anti-war Hippie does not help the emotions this kind of thing brings out.
But I DO support our young men and their families. We have to.
BTW: My hubby and I tied the legal knot long before we told his parents. Like RT and Ann, we just knew and did not care what others thought.
I do hope you get to have your *party* wedding. We never did and that is a memory I wish I had now.
Best wishes. Hug him as much as you can.

We've talked alot about how we're just going to keep ourselves busy, with work and everything. His MOS isn't the easiest to get promoted, so he's going to work towards his promotion, and aquire as many qualifications as possible.

iamsally, I'm not a fan of the war either. But, I stood by him when he told me that he was joining. We've done this long distance thing for over 5 years, and it sure does suck, but it really does make us appreciate eachother more, and hopefully it will be better for us in the longrun.

Dude, that's so cool that you guys live close to eachother, AND Disneyland!

Thank you TXDISNEYNERD, I know things will be ok...this is just the first time, I'm just nervous.

...almost right, we live close to each other but we're about 350 miles north of DL. We did meet in DL though but wouldn't have if we both hadn't been celebrating our anniversaries. Does that count?

I may be able to make a December anniversary trip, but definitly not August. He does like, and appreciate Disneyland, just not to my extent! :)

That's one of the big attractions of LP...we make each other feel "normal".

Tinkeroon and I typically spend the week of our anniversary at DL. I would imagine that there would be a pretty good chance of a joint celebration some day. At least I hope so. I'll even let him regale me with Marine stories if it helps get him there.

We both want a wedding on Catalina Island, we went there right before he left for bootcamp, and fell in love!

I can't wait to tell him how nice and supportive all of you are being, it's such a nice feeling to know that I'm not in this alone.
