It's still an entertainment show. I'm sure there are plenty of "good" singers who do get heard but lack whatever it is the judges are looking for.

But plenty of really good people were mediocre in the initial cattle call round for whatever reason, so we never see them at all.

Look at how many past winners and runners up have made solid careers. Not too many, and they have good voices. Apparently they have lacked either audience appeal or the hard work to do well. It goes to show that Judges also have to look for the right personality to make it.

I was expecting to be really irritated by Bikini Girl but I didn't find her all that obnoxious. I kind of felt sorry for her becuase her voice isn't good enough and other than being nearly nekkid, she wasn't that attractive. What ticked me off is that the guys clearly rewarded her for wearing a bikini and not her voice. They quickly said "sure" and they drag out their decisions for even some of the best singers. For sure there will be even more bikini idiots (or worse) next year because she got through. I don't think she'll make it through Hollywood week, though, so kinda felt sorry for her. Even the freaks don't get more than a blip on the fame radar...people won't really even remember her beyond a couple of weeks.
