Yeah, I know the contestants ask for it. And it's interesting to see the contrast between those who have talent and those who don't.

But I'd like to see less of that aspect of it. As we're giggling at some kid who's been paraded in front of the judges and the cameras to be made a fool of, how many kids with talent are outside the door not getting their chance to be heard?

I think a lot of those who got through last night are going to be disappointed during 'Hollywood week.'

Bikini Girl, if I were you I wouldn't even unpack when I get to LA....

Many, but even though AI is a talent show, it is not "real." It's still an entertainment show. I'm sure there are plenty of "good" singers who do get heard but lack whatever it is the judges are looking for.

Pick a song not suited to them; c). Get too nervous; d). any number of other things... they won't get picked to see the 4 on-camera judges. Same if the JUDGES are having an off day or are tired or whatever.

Those preliminary judges are looking for the very good and the very bad. And any given person can be really good one day and then be simply mediocre before the on-camera judges (which is why you see some so-so people there). But plenty of really good people were mediocre in the initial cattle call round for whatever reason, so we never see them at all.

You make a good point here. Look at how many past winners and runners up have made solid careers. Not too many, and they have good voices. Apparently they have lacked either audience appeal or the hard work to do well. It goes to show that Judges also have to look for the right personality to make it.

Even when they do, 90% of _those_ are left on the cutting room floor, including those that got a golden ticket to Hollywood. The audition shows are edited for entertainment, not to show us all of the "good" singers.

What ticked me off is that the guys clearly rewarded her for wearing a bikini and not her voice. They quickly said "sure" and they drag out their decisions for even some of the best singers. For sure there will be even more bikini idiots (or worse) next year because she got through.

I don't think she'll make it through Hollywood week, though, so kinda felt sorry for her. Even the freaks don't get more than a blip on the fame radar...people won't really even remember her beyond a couple of weeks.

This is all staged entertainment so the first couple seasons it held my interest now it's like - okay just pick who you're gonna pick and I'll judge those 24 or 32 or however many it'll be this year.

I didn't make plans to watch the show this week because I figured I would just go on youtube and catch up. So FOX has taken off the videos due to copyright infringement.

I liked that there were a lot of human interest type stories to get us to remember people better. Like the girl that lived with her 93 yr. old grandmother, the guy mentioned above, the girl at the end with the tornado, and my memory is so bad, I forget the rest.

How about Jason's brother? lol I think they had just showed that guy in the vee neck shirt down to his waist going on and on about his musical training. The music schools he attended, the opera training and so on.

    He was horrible.

Then, Jason's brother says he started singing 20 days ago and he wasn't half bad!
