I saw the Kurt Russell/Elvis similarity, b/c I even thought when I saw Adam perform 'I'll bet DLF8 is loving this...' (I know she likes Adam and LOVES Kurt Russell!~Although Kurt is much better looking, he doesn't need an inch and a half of pancake make-up.)

My point being is considering the whole idea of the show originally was to pick they next big American Idol it really hasn't been in the mainstream for a while now. While I know most have put things out, for the most part many have gone into other venues (R&B, Country, Gospel, Stage). I am not saying those aren't making them successful - but originally the show was marketed to be like the original British show Pop Idol - and most have not become Pop Stars. It seems like when it first began people really wanted the best to win - now with sites like - vote for the worst (or whatever it's called) the best sometimes goes home way too early... Hopefully with the new rule about the judges being able to save someone this won't happen this year.

Will have to go to the website and check it out before tomorrow night. Matt (You Found Me) Performance was ok, nothing earth shattering. May be in bottom 3. Megan (Bob Dylan/Lauren Hill song?) She's gotta go. That's all I have to say about her. Scott (Just the Way You Are) What a wonderful performance, just him and the piano. One of the best of the night. Saving the best for last (in my opinion) was Adam. LOVED his version of Play That Funky Music! Such energy and when he hits those upper ranges, I get goosebumps! He also kept the young Kurt Russell/Elvis look which I'm LOVING!!! ♥ Other opinions??

My bottom three from last night are Mehgan, Scott, and Matt with Anoop being right on the cusp.

I saw Bill Withers perform it fresh take on the song but still true enough for us oldies. Scott-very smooth, perfect song for him Allison-I love her rocker voice but the outfit had me thinking she was a cartoon character Lil-seems to be shouting at times, I hope she stays and chooses better songs Anoop-nice voice, I'm uncomfortable watching him though, he needs a dance coach Matt-just weird performance for me, I didn't know the song but he sounded like he was growling it, maybe he was supposed to be? Funny what Simon said Meghan-I really liked her in the beginning but she is the same every week.

Not as embarrassing as Beat It, certainly, but he really can't pull off semi-sneering or "bad boy" and shouldn't try. He should have gone more for "Mr. Smooth" with a song like this (which stylistically was fine for him). But the whole "wannabe bad" thing threw the vibe off. Megan: Turn Your Lights Down Low. Ugh. Another weak, affected performance. I guess she was trying for that alt-rock chick thing the judges originally liked with the kinda strange vocal quality and enunciation, but it just came off as "white girl trying to be Rasta" and it was awful. She escaped bottom three last week, though, so this girl has her fans SOMEWHERE. And I know "Vote for the Worst" has their people voting for her, like they did for Sanjaya a few seasons back. She ought to go home, but something tells me she won't. Danny: What Hurts the Most. I didn't like it QUITE as much as the judges, as I don't think he caught everything this song has to offer. But he came close and was very good. Allison: Don't Speak. She sang it perfectly well, yet seemed to be trying just a little too hard with both the vocal and the outfit (though I thought the judges made entirely too much of the outfit). I was pretty impressed that she not only played guitar but started with just the guitar and no other instruments. Picking a particular part and not just strumming, too. I thought at first maybe the house guitarist was really playing, and she'd just strum along later, but no - it was her. Not her best, but still good. Scott: Just the Way You Are. Better than he's been in weeks, but still in the bottom tier for me (it doesn't help that I really don't like this song). I'm sure he'll survive, though. Matt: You Found Me. Kudos for picking a song of this type, but anti-kudos for picking THIS one. I want to give him props for showing he can do more than r&b, but this song didn't show his rock side very well. He was bottom three last week, too, which is why I think Kara was careful to say that he was better than this and shouldn't be voted off. Lil: I Surrender. I was surprised, given that people could choose essentially anything this week, that she didn't go right for her strength and choose a Mary J. song or something. But hell if she didn't pull it off, a few iffy notes notwithstanding. Yes, as Simon said, it was a little old-fashioned, and she'd have been better off doing something more contemporary, but the woman can sing. Adam: Play That Funky Music. First of all, great arrangement of a much-overdone song. I thought it wasn't a great choice for him, until I realized how different this arrangement was (giving each verse line 4 bars instead of 2, for instance). And he showed off that amazing range again without sounding indulgent. He just sounded - and looked - like a star. Kris: Ain't No Sunshine. His best performance so far. Even Simon, who originally thought he was talented but bland, praised it. He could actually take the "David Archuletta" spot and last a loooong time if he keeps this up. Should go home: Megan. Will go home: Anoop or Matt. (Not Allison, please, not Allison!)
