I honestly feel it's expecting way too much of someone to somehow just turn off a switch and not think about a loved one recently departed. I also personally don't feel like he "milking it" for the sympathy vote. Maybe it's because I am not delving into his personal situation, but other than song selection or small on-stage gestures, if I hadn't been following the show from the beginning, I wouldn't even know of his loss.

Sometimes I wonder about that. Esp after last weeks performance. He seemed visibly shaken at the end of that song. It seemed like he almost forgot where he was...

Perfectly solid, but I was with Simon; good but not great. Even though he went first, and wasn't great, I don't think he's in danger. He's got huge tween appeal (I keep remembering Lisa Simpson's favorite magazine, "Non-Threatening Boy," when I look at him), and I don't think he's ever been bottom three. Allison: Someone to Watch Over Me. I'd say a notch better than Kris - call it "very good but not great." I think something more uptempo would have suited her better (someone should have clued her in to Pat Benatar's standards album) but hell if she didn't just about pull this off. A couple of moments were off tonally with the rocker-chick voice on this particular song (though the female judges seemed to love that), but all in all a fine performance. Still, I think that along with Matt she's vulnerable. Matt: My Funny Valentine. Here I disagreed with Simon. I didn't think it was all that great. Again - good, though. Just not great. Nowhere near Melinda's version from two years ago, either vocally or emotionally. And he's vulnerable. Danny: Come Rain or Come Shine. Now THAT is what I've been waiting for from Danny for several weeks now. He's been a little "eh" for me (by his standards) for a few weeks, and I think Kris might have been supplanting him as co-favorite. He needed a performance like this to put him back in contention, and he got it. The end particularly showed off his voice, was emotionally connected - the whole package. Adam: I Feel Good. Looked great, sounded great... just lacked as much emotion as Danny. Still, no way he goes home tomorrow. This has looked like an Adam/Danny final for a while now, with Kris as possible dark horse if Danny didn't step it up. The other two I just don't see getting into the top three, even if they do well. At this point it's all about established fan bases more than a particular performance on a particular night. Allison's hope to last longer is being the only female left, so I think Matt will go home tomorrow (and should). Even with being the only female left, though, Allison will have to absolutely knock it out of the park next week to last any longer. (She's capable of that, though, so who knows?)

I like them both for different reasons so it'll be sad either way.

I wonder if when Simon watches the tape he'll change his opinion? Danny's been on cruise control, but he amped it up and was the best of the night. I was with Randy on Adam. IMO he was making some awfully weird faces. I know the judges want the contestants to make it their own, but I'd like to see him sing without taking it to left field.

I think each number should have a max number of votes because most people are not going to spend two hours voting for their favorite so you can't really know who the real favorite is. You just know who had the more dedicated fans without a life. AI likes to be able to say how many millions of votes were cast though.

It seems that a "one household, one vote" mechanism would be fair -- especially given that there is at least one website devoted solely to ensuring that the popular vote gets corrupted. On the other hand... Ultimately, this show exists to discover the singers that the show's producers can make the most money off of. And what better way to predict future album sales than by seeing who gets the most rabid fans' votes? If a large percentage of viewers (with or without a life, thankyouverymuch) are willing to call multiple times to vote for a contestant, that's a pretty good prognosticator of good future CD sales and song downloads for that contestant/signee.
