You may recall that next week’s theme is Judges Choice and Personal Pick for the Top 3, with each contestant singing TWO songs instead of just one. Judges Choice Songs for the Top 3: * Danny Gokey - “Dance Little Sister” by Terence Trent D’Arby- chosen by Paula Abdul - * Kris Allen - “Apologize” by One Republic - via Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi * Adam Lambert - “One” by U2 (or Wicked Game by Chris Isaac via rumors) - chosen by Simon Cowell During Adam Lambert’s Hometown visit, Adam clearly states he’ll be singing “One” by U2. Watch Adam Lambert in this youtube video and see for yourself that he clearly says he’ll be singing “One” next week.>>> http://mountainsageblog.com/20...s-51209/

Judging from the business of the phone lines, it sounds like Adam was getting a ton of votes, with quite a few for Danny as well (I didn't vote for Chris). This is the first time this year that I've actually had to deal with busy signals on all lines I dialed. I'm betting the voter turnout is going to be HUGE!!!

I really, really, really liked Chris' version of "Heartless". Danny's second song, "You Are So Beautiful" was surprisingly great, too. It's gonna be a bumpy road for tomorrow's results show, so hang on tight! It's gonna be close! I'm still a Glambert.

Danny: Dance Little Sister. Surprisingly astute choice for Paula. It was right in his wheelhouse, he had lots of energy, and if his dancing was still too geeky by half, his fans aren't going to mind a bit (it never hurt Taylor Hicks). Kris: Apologize. Not a very astute choice by Randy and Kara, considering David Archuletta just did this last season, wonderfully. It was the weakest performance of the night, but not THAT bad, and I think Simon's criticism was more of an ego thing directed at Kara (for choosing it) than at Kris. Adam: One. It was very good - a tad over-dramatic for my taste, actually, but where it was good it was very good. Danny: You Are So Beautiful. Very canny - takes a song just about everyone likes and did mix it up just enough to make it interesting. Did that "start soft and finish big" thing so beloved of Idol audiences. Didn't quite connect emotionally 100% (I could see the wheels turning), but quite well done. Kris: Heartless. It was better than his first, but not THAT much better. Over-praised, I thought - almost like Simon realized he was too harsh the first time and wanted to make up for it, and/or make the contest closer and thus more exciting. Adam: Crying. Probably the best of the night, though not the best he's done. After all these weeks he can still surprise me by just what a range he's got. (Just when you think he can't possibly go any higher, he finds a place to do it, it's appropriate for the song, and I'm not talking about the screams either, but the notes.) Kept the screams in the acceptable range for Aerosmith, and sounded great. Who goes home? I'll say Kris, but it's a tough call. It has seemed like an Adam/Danny final with Kris coming up strong on the inside for weeks now, so no result would shock me. Kris definitely has his fan base. I remember two years ago when it was down to the final 3 and Simon predicted Melinda would "sail through to the finals" (and she should have), and then she didn't. So I noted he was careful to tell everyone that they shouldn't assume Adam would sail through, and to vote for him. Simon certainly sees Adam as the most talented (as do I), and I think he's got the most star potential as well. Danny could end up like Taylor; beloved on the show, but hard to find a niche for in the greater pop music world. I like all three of these guys (and Allison too), but I think Adam and Allison have the most star potential.

I thought both his singing and playing were first rate, easily his best performance of the year. And it takes guts to stand up there an accompany yourself. Very few have even tried, and most of them have failed (Brooke from last year on the piano comes to mind, or even Scott from this year). >Who goes home? I'll say Kris, but it's a tough call.< I completely agree. Should be an interesting show tonight.
Originally Posted By Dabob2 I thought his playing was good, and a canny move on his part - he's a far better musician than Brooke, say, (and as a result this wasn't that gutsy for him - he's an excellent guitarist and can play what he played last night in his sleep) and doing a plain guitar-vocal is just the kind of thing that instantly distinguishes his version from the original, and leads to over-praise from the judges, IMO. My main problem was his vocal - very, very good as usual with him, but didn't reach any emotional peak for me. At this point I'm nitpicking and being tougher on them than in earlier rounds, because they ARE so good.
