"But there's not as much to talk about there. The Abramhoff "scandal" will taint almost as many Democrats as Republicans, and it won't help the Democrats win any seats in 2006."

I don't know about that. I did the whole round of Sunday talk shows yesterday, and without exception these DC insiders were saying that this is going to touch a lot more Republicans a lot more strongly. I'm guessing they hear a lot more whispers than we do here on LP.

True, plenty of Democrats got money from Abramoff, directly or indirectly. But they seem to be pretty much untainted contributions - no quid pro quo easily seen. Same with quite a few Republicans.

There are, however, about a half dozen Republicans who might go down for this, because their quid pro quos are pretty much out in the open. Ney for starters, and DeLay of course, and others they didn't name, but all agreed it was the Republicans who are more vulnerable here.

Plus, Abramoff's ties to non-elected people like Norquist and Ralph Reed may cause them trouble, as well.

It could all blow over by November '06, sure. But even the arch-conservative Tony Blankley yesterday put the potential damage to the GOP at "12" on a scale of 1-10.

Yes. And I'm willing to bet $1,000 right now on that.

    (It's worth a shot. LOL)

I don't think so. Not unless republicans are willing to re-elect incumbents that have been indicted for corruption.

The way the justice system works, this could peak in the fall. Greed and avarice, the great equalizer.

The Republicans can only save themselves if they act quickly. They cannot slowly bleed themselves into the fall elections.

They have to reform themselves now. They also need to reform their major weaknesses like TOO MUCH SPENDING.

Not sure if the Democrats have an edge, but they can definitely gain in Congress.
