With the likes of you and Beaumandy, who would want to be associated with the right? You guys are great at creating more liberals with your dispiriting view of the world.

There are some issues where my positions fall firmly in the same place as today's conservatives, generally when it comes to state's rights. There are some where they fall firmly into the left, such as the advantages of single-payer healthcare and the problems caused in American society by unchecked access to power by the wealthy. But if you just label me as a conservative or a liberal you aren't going to be open to a discussion about the issues at hand. It doesn't allow for the broad mix of opinions that all of us have about things. We shouldn't be making the intellectual shortcuts of labeling ourselves and others. On some issues, I'm very conservative. On others, very liberal. Call me any label that you want, but it is a convenient lie that you tell yourself so that you can just categorically insist that I'm wrong.

I'm still registered GOP, and as K2M said, it's your type that has drivens countless normal conservatives away from the party. I never voted Democrat in my life until I voted for Obama, because McCain caved in to whackos like yourself and picked Palin. And as I've said time again, I was one of the last holdouts here defending Bush and the Iraq War until it became obvious the entire thing was a sham. Up yours.

Then you are either a liar or have terrible memory. I am on record here as being pro life for one. Others here will remember that I am a Catholic and believe in the Catholic definition of marriage as well. And I have butted heads with them over those issues in the past. Being "conservative" does not mean: Being pro war Being a gun nut Being against the poor Being racist Being against having a national health system (which all modern nations have), some for over 100 years. etc. Your attack, accusing me of not being a "true conservative" is typical of what I have experienced from the neo-fascist right. I fail the "purity test" therefore I am not "conservative" by their definition. But if being a conservative means being a fascist, then I suppose I am not a "conservative" anymore. But I posit that it's pro war, pro violence nut jobs who have hijacked the movement. The sad thing is that it used to be the Dems who got us into wars. Now it's the "conservatives" who drag us into the quagmires. And for the record, I'm not a Democrat. Never have been, and never will be. But again, it's people like you you have driven me out of the GOP.
