If you think my reasons aren't good enough, then you must obviously agree with the comments that were made regarding recipients of Head Start. Do you want to see Head Start abolished? Do you agree with the BS comments that were made regarding "good parents"? If you do agree with them, then in my eyes, you're a racist bigot as well.

Oh yeah, and I did put my kids in preschool because no matter how much a mom can teach her kids one-on-one, and I did that too, there are lessons about socialization and getting along with a bunch of different people that kids aren't going to learn at home. So that statement is also pretty ignorant on that front too.

As for the validity of head start or pre-school programs, it makes me very sad to think of them not being around someday, or only available to the wealthy. My daughter went to a pre-school which we paid for, and my son will go to the same program when he's old enough. We will pay for them both, as we don't usually qualify for federal or state funded help, but I think it should be there for everyone to give their kids the same shot as everyone else's. I think pre-school is a wonderful opportunity to prepare kids for school. Mainly for the socialization skills they acquire. They usually have more one on one time than they will have in public schools, and it's a great confidence booster for them. Helps them develop a sense of independence and gets them ready for time away from mommy and daddy. And for the record, I didn't take any offense to skinner's comments either. And I'm a white mom, middle/to upper class, married, blah blah, although I do work. But to think only someone like me or someone like me that doesn't work could be a good parent is disgusting and morally and ethically wrong.

I guess I am a terrible parent who ruined their little lives forever, all because I put them in preschool. "We will pay for them both, as we don't usually qualify for federal or state funded help, but I think it should be there for everyone to give their kids the same shot as everyone else's. " Exactly CC. I want every child to have the same educational opportunities that my kids have. Many studies have shown the benefits of early childhood education and to say it should only be available to well off kids is just wrong.
