Thanks for the heads up on this...it's smack-dab in the middle of our trip. I'll have to plan accordingly I suppose.

Yeah. But if you're spending the day in the Studios, Marrakesh isn't an option. You can make the Dining Plan work, but it's easy to come out behind on it too. You need careful planning.

"Thanks for all the info everyone. I probably realistically won't rent points since money is a factor for us, and will probably save money by staying at a value resort and getting free dining IF they offer that."

Yeah, renting points probably won't save you money over a value resort.

Don't be too married to the idea of free dining. There are sometimes room discounts that are better deals.

You might want to consider using a travel agent. A good one will keep an eye out for the best deals. And they don't cost you a thing (Disney pays them).

This site has a history of the free dining offer: <a href="http://wdwprepschool.com/about-the-disney-dining-plan-and-how-to-get-it-for-free/" target="_blank">http://wdwprepschool.com/about...or-free/</a>

Options are rather limited at the Studios. I would probably use my quick service meal there or use two credits at the Brown Derby. Since they make you buy the plan for every day in the hotel and I usually don't arrive until evening the first day, I would end up with an extra day of credits.

I enjoy the Spinach & Artichoke Dip, the Salmon BLT and the Reuben Sandwich. Now that The Brown Derby has priced itself off of our list except for Appetizer and Dessert, if Ann and I eat a meal at a Studios table service, that is generally where we dine.

I agree with RT on Sci-Fi restaurant. We did it 2 years ago. I didn't like what they had on the menu so they let me have a grilled piece of chicken and cole slaw. It was good. Our server was nice but they seemed to be swamped. Service was vey slow. I think the show repeated itself 3 times.
I like Prime Time 50's. I have been there twice and would go again. It was very entertaining when we went. We had excellent servers both times.

Many people really like the Prime Time. I just dined there once and didn't enjoy it that much. It had been a long, hot day in the park and my late wife Rosie just wanted a nice quite dinner. That is not going to happen at Prime Time, where a certain amount of "audience participation" is expected and necessary if you are going to really enjoy the place.

It didn't start out very well when even with our confirmation number in hand they couldn't find our reservation. That was finally resolved and we were eventually seated.

We ordered an appetizer to share, and when it was delivered my wife asked for a small plate to use for her appetizer. Our server "Sis" told my wife she didn't want to wash the extra dish and to use a napkin instead. My wife wasn't in the mood to be messed with, and again asked for a small plate. Sis persisted and said "Mom" would be mad at her if she went back in the kitchen asking for another plate. My wife said that was HER problem; that SHE wanted an extra plate. I could see my wife was getting upset and "Sis" was getting frustrated. I said, "Look... My daughter and I are fine with using a napkin but my wife wants a plate. We are the customers here, please bring her one or we will have to leave." My wife got her plate and "Sis" toned down the act with my wife, concentrating on my daughter and I, which worked well for everyone.

I thought the food was adequate but not much more. I had "Mom's Meatloaf" which was not to my liking. I've since learned to never order meatloaf at a restaurant... it is rarely what I like. It is hard for a restaurant to keep it warm without drying it out.

But that was almost 20 years ago, and a check at Deb Will's site shows that the menu has changed considerably... this time for the better. Instead of concentrating on dishes your mother would have served in your family kitchen back in the 50's, they now feature things a 50's mother would have never heard of... Seafood Arrabbiata, Pork Osso Buco, etc. As far as I'm concerned, it is a great improvement and the unfortunate meatloaf is long gone.

I may give it another try next time I'm at the Studios. My present wife Annie would be more into the "audience participation" and can hold her own with anyone. I would order a box of popcorn, sit back and enjoy the show!!

    Thanks for the info everyone!

Any other great places for kids that pop to anyone's mind?
