Wait a minute......once the WDC actually started caring about it and started spending money, guess what? He actually starts praising them and the improved conditions.

Funny how that works, isn't it?

Actually, that's what bothers me about Al. That part about what Lasseter "wants" is pure speculation. Al has no idea what Lasseter wants, yet he presents it as though it's fact.

He should just stick to what he knows (which, if bean is to be believed, may not be as much as he claims).

There is a lot of art deco all over the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, which DCA is kind of emulating.

But as someone else says, there's all sorts of styles, they weren't built with a theme, per se, but just as a collection of different things.

The 20s were when these piers hit their peak, it would be kind of appropriate to have that sort of thing in the pier.

I think they should have made a break with disney's traditional victorian everywhere theme. You can do too much of it.

Given the GIANT Luna Park influences, what with The Wonder Wheel, Big White Roller Coaster, and Ariel's, My guess is it makes more sense to continue the Victorian Luna Park look than to change everything. They did include a cool Art Deco sign for Screamin', but thats going.
Given what they had to work with, and how much other fixes are financially required. A beautiful Victorian Boardwalk will have to suffice.
It never looked like a Californian Pier, and from the look of things it never will. Unless the Hotel Del decides to build a Luna Parkesque Pier.

Funny, it doesn't look like Luna Park at all. It actually looks a lot like Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

I don't remember much about the Long Beach Pike. Didn't go there as it was kind of scary...

OAN, It's interesting how the DCA sucks discussions have all but dried up since the news broke that Disney is reinvesting in the place.

Al could be right in many of the things he said. There are many people involved in the expansion and not all of us know sometimes the changes going on with certain projects.

The timelines he gave sound a bit off from the last ones i had heard but things have been changing almost everyday.

for example the orange stinger was staying not to long ago now its being decided that it will be removed along with Maliboomer.

Last i heard there was still issues on starting prep work on Cars Land before having a positive solution on where to displace those cars.

things change so much its sometimes dificult to pinpoint things. This is one of the reasons some sites hold of on updates for so many weeks.

But the reason why one would hold back for so long would be so that when the news is more publicly announced, it should by then be more concrete. If it's never a guarantee, then why hold back?

The cars that are currently parked in the Timon Lot by regular park guests, I'm assuming?

thanks for dropping the hint on a holiday "World of Color" show.

During this last Christmas season .. listening to lots of Christmas music .. and thinking of this show in the works ...

I was thinking it was one of those "Duh, of course they are" things ... that a Holiday "World of Color" will debut as well.

DCA has a lot to catch up with ... with it's sister park with so many Christmas related things to do ... while DCA for the last 7 years has really had diddly.

I almost was going to make it a whole topic about a Holiday WoC.

I don't know if the show producers are thinking all "singing" songs for the holiday show ... But if anyone ever gave it some thought ....... Some of the most beautiful holiday music arrangements that would fit appropriately for a water pageant .. would be instrumental pieces.
(Percy Faith, Hollyridge Strings, David Rose, etc.) Because the water fountains are "center stage". Singing can sometimes take away from a majestic towering water show.

    - Just my own thoughts on dancing waters shows.

But if you are saying there is anything dated about some of the instrumental music that came out of the 60s ...
go talk to the people in charge for Main Street's music for the holidays ..
which includes Jingle Bell Rock from the Hollyridge Strings ... and a piece or two from David Rose.

There are some musical pieces that are timeless ... fit .. and nothing tacky about them at all! Like Liberace! ;)

I don't know why that would be odd at all. No matter which DCA camp you were in, this reinvestment is nothing but good stuff. If you thought DCA sucked and was a money drain, then all these changes are terrific. But if you thought DCA was OK as a 2nd gate, the changes are still terrific. Any way you slice it, This is all going to be great for the DCA guests of the future. Anyone still complaining about the direction of DCA is simply going to complain no matter what.
