Got 6.5 in Wed/ wanted 12 Thurs but had to hit Universal first so only 6.5 was run- Did end up clocking 12+ miles just not 'running'...

The expo on Friday was a spectacular disaster. Because of Saturday's schedule, all of the runners for the Kids Races, 5K, 10K, and Dumbo had to get their packets on Friday, and they simply didn't have the capacity for it. Much of the runDisney merchandise sold out within minutes (only to show up later that day on eBay), and there were reports of ~2 hour lines to check out. We went back on Saturday, and it was much better. I suspect that runDisney anticipated some of the problems, since they were smart enough to schedule the 5K and 10K on different days for Tink, which will help distribute the crowds more evenly thoughout the duration of the expo

The 5K went off without a hitch on Saturday morning. I held my pace back a little bit, since I was running the 10K later, but was surprised to see how empty it was near me. By the end of it, I would guess that runners were at least 100' apart (at a roughly 9mm pace), though I'm sure it was much busier further back

There was some congestion getting to the 10K, as expected, but they managed to get it started on time (or really darn close to it). I was impressed with how well laid-out the course was, and it gave us a ton of time in the parks. Since the first couple miles were on the city streets, it gave the crowds some time to spread out before getting into the narrow parts of the course. Due to the heat, there weren't enough water stations (and they didn't have Powerade), but that's my only real critique of that race. I enjoyed it so much I went ahead and signed up for the Tink 10K right before it filled

The half was also good, but warm. The course was essentially the same as last year, but with a detour due to the construction of the ARTIC terminal next to the 57. We got to run through the big 'A' outside the stadium (which I didn't realize until looking at a video after the race), which was kind of cool. I ended up running most of the race with a family friend who I met for the first time the day before, so that helped the miles go by quicker. It was pretty warm, but I didn't think it was as hot as Saturday morning

During the 3 races, I managed to pass Sean Astin 4 times (he passed me during my first walk break in the 10K), so it was pretty cool to get to see him out on the course. I think he finished just after me both days, since I heard them playing the Rudy soundtrack as I was getting my medal and photos

Thank goodness it was only the 10k. I managed to miss the expo madness since I went Friday evening. No real lines, but it WAS more crowded than usual. I didn't find any issues with water stations. There seemed to be plenty of water and powerade for me, but I know those further in the back had some issues. I went back to get my mom and friend, but I wasn't really paying attention to the stations at the point, since I was done.
I saw Sean Astin, too! I pretty much ran both races right around him. We finished both races within 1-2 minutes of each other. (I was faster in the 10k, he in the half)I only said hi at the end of the 10k (he said he did the 5k earlier, too). Apparently, we run the same pace. I passed Joey Fatone in the first mile both days. He was flat out slow, but he had a lot of fans trying to take pics and talk to him when I had passed him. He was singing when I passed him in the half. I had a lot of fun this year! Can't wait for Tink, already training!

Wonder if DL will get another race that weekend then...RD is suppose to announce some new races right?

There have been rumors of an international race, most likely in Paris or possibly Tokyo, but both of those locations would be pretty bad running conditions in January. Conceivably they could add a race in Hong Kong or possibly Shanghai (though I think it gets cold in Shanghai), but I haven't heard any rumors to that effect.

The other thing that makes me wonder is the proximity to the Expedition Everest 5K, which is typically the first weekend in May. If they didn't want to do the marathon and Tink back-to-back, it seems odd that they would be okay with Everest and Tink back-to-back (even if Everest is much much smaller). Everest seems to be relatively popular, and gives a nice Disney alternative to Warrior/Spartan Dash-type races, so I would imagine they'd keep it, but it could go away

My times are probably going to be pretty rough, but at least I'm going into it healthy

I really wanted to run and PR before all this happened but now I just want to finish. Surgery is scheduled for the week after the race.

I will say that I ended up with 2 of the strangest running-related injuries I've ever heard of: I have a really raw spot on the inside of my right thigh from wearing my knee brace during the races (my knee feels fine), and I got a burn/blister on top of my finger from using the hotel room coffee maker to make oatmeal before the race. With all those miles, I guess there's no way to avoid injury! : )

I'm looking forward to the Tink races this weekend. I doubt I'll get a shakeout run in between now and then, but I'm feeling surprisingly confident at the moment
