Tinkerbell 1/2 Marathon (and DL Half)

Go check out the course descriptions on the rD website. The 10K description is the Tinkerbell Half course, and the SW Half course says it goes through DCA but *past* DL (the park with the SW stuff in it). runDisney's roll-outs of new websites are typically a little bumpy, but those seem like particularly silly errors

Have you already booked your flights? If not, could you shift everything forward a few days? I know that the hotels are fairly flexible with that sort of stuff (especially since they haven't opened rooms for booking yet), so it might be worth considering

Yep. In a way, it kind of makes sense. They wanted a Star Wars race, and they wanted to add a race between Easter and Memorial Day, but they didn't want Star Wars then because Star Wars Weekends in WDW are that same time. I wonder why they didn't just stick it in November, and then put Avengers in May. I guess it's too late now...

I already booked the flights. :/ We are in a time share just outside the park. We could leave whenever we want with no extra charge. I don't know what the flight fee would be to transfer. I'm going to look when I get home, it might be worth it. I'm excited for a new local race, even if I miss the challenge

On a related note, they released the DL1/2 medals today. I'm surprised that they changed the 10K design completely, but I think this is more appropriate for a shorter race than the over-done ones they had last year and for Tink. I'm not sure how I feel about the halo around the Half medal, but it's an interesting way to switch it up while keeping the same basic design

I saw the medals, too. I figured they would change up the 10k. I guess I assumed it, I don't know why though. I didn't expect the half medal to change. I know it's just the ring, but I thought they would just wait until 10 year medal. I don't mind the ring, I just don't see the point, when it will be a bigger change next year. Maybe they want to appease the complainers out there.

And I'm still surprised that they didn't do more to hype this announcement. They usually do a pretty good job dropping a few hints on Twitter or Facebook, but this announcement just popped up out of nowhere. It's like it was something that they had talked about several months ago and then somebody said the other day "Oh crap, early registration opens next week!" and they had to scramble. I know that rD is a pretty small group of people, but it's still surprising that there were no rumors or teasers at all for this

As much as I love the events that runDisney puts on, that's pretty much what you have to do with all of them! ; )

It's a steep price, but I can justify it by knowing that it will be a reliably high-quality race that's done extremely well. The only time I've been disappointed by a race was last year's DL1/2 10K, which thoroughly needed something more than warm water at the aid stations (due to the temperature and distance; it was fine for the 5K 45 minutes earlier), and the start was a fluster-cluck do to them thinking it was a good idea to run it the same day as the 5K (suspiciously, they've fixed that for all future events, which also helps the debacle they experienced at the expo). Still, the course was fantastic (arguably the best course I've ever run) and there were no crowds, at least at the pace I was running, so it was a great experience overall

I can certainly agree with this mentality! Your first race of that distance is a big deal and you'll have plenty of other things to stress out about, so foregoing the 10K as a first-timer is absolutely the right decision!
