On a related note, why are airfares so freaking expensive right now? I used to be able to get to soCal for $250-300 without looking too hard, and now it seems like everything is in the $400+ range; the absolute cheapest I've seen is $365 at a terrible time

Given that I'm trying to work a more-or-less full 40 hours before heading out, I only have a window of a couple hours when I can head out

But every time I hear of a sale with them or JetBlue, I definitely check to see what they have, just in case. Ever since SW merged with AirTran, their options from here have become more limited (no more flights from Reagan) and more expensive

    Nice!!

They are working on me some more. I'm about to work with one of the Travel Providers to add the Princess Glass Slipper Challenge in Feb at WDW so I can earn the pink Coast-to-Coast.

Luckily, it didn't seem to have any problems, and I finished right on pace with my other Disney races. I had originally hoped to try and push the pace on the Half, but with the heat and my toenail (and forgetting my Garmin in the hotel) I decided it was better to just run the whole thing by feel

I also started in Corral B, and thought it was really strange that we started at the same time as Corral A. We got into the corral a little on the late side (10-15min to go) and were surprised to hear it announced at the last moment. Had they already warned people that they would be starting with the A's? From what I could tell, releasing the corrals together didn't help the congestion any (though it was never a problem for me in A before)

We were laughing about how we all got worked up. There was no warning until they said we are releasing A&B together and I got in the corral around 5. Weird. I wonder if they released multiple corrals after us???
It didn't seem THAT much less congested to me than being in the larger A corral, but it did seem to thin out quicker than usual. I've never really had a problem either, just the people who pushed forward that shouldn't have and getting around them at the beginning....but that will never go away. :/

My toenail was funky, too! It's starting get loose from my last marathon (it stayed attached). I put lots glide on it and clipped it as much as I could.

We were in the back, near the corral entrance, so we were pretty cozy with our neighbors. There was a CM shouting for us to move forward, but there simply wasn't any room for us to; once they made the announcement, it seemed like we had 2-3 times as much space, even with all the extra runners coming in the back. You guys up front must have been hogging all the room! : )

One thing that happened between miles 7-8 until the finish....I kept having a horrible leg cramp. Could not run, or even walk with out limping. Really affected our time but so happy DH was there to help massage it out.
    It's got to be a nutrition issue/deficit...any ideas/thoughts ??

As for the cramping, it could be something related to fueling. Since it was pretty hot out, I would guess that you may have needed more salt, since you probably lost a lot of electrolytes via sweat. Obviously there are sports drinks that specialize in that of you could eat really salty food, but I've also done some pre-race salt 'fueling' the day before a race by eating a couple salt packets (taking them like a shot of alcohol, and chasing them with a TON of water). It's not the most pleasant thing in the world, but it works. I've also heard of runners drinking pickle juice for the same purpose, but I just don't like pickles so I've never tried it

I agree with Ferret....probably some sort of dehydration. It was overcast, but still humid/sweaty. I've really only cramped up twice, and GU, or sports drink usually helps. That or punching my leg with my fist (not recommended, but it worked!). Just make sure you are drinking electrolytes along the way, not just when you think you need it, especially in a hotter race.

...and pickle juice....ewwwwww :p I like pickles, even for something salty and crunchy after a run and that still sounds pretty gross to drink the juice.

I still don't like the idea of pickle juice, but that does sound tempting for a long run on a hot day!

OK...need some advice about preparing for the Pixie Dust Challenge. This will be my first challenge and I really want to be prepared for both. How do you prepare for a back to back ?? This is new territory for me.

If you're properly trained for a Half (ie longest run of 12-14mi, not longest run of 8mi) and your pace is fast enough that the course time limit isn't a huge concern, then running 6mi at a moderate pace the day before shouldn't be too strenuous for you
