I read somewhere that the Princess 1/2 sign up starts on July 10th.

Hotel is already book for Tink, off property.
I'll need to wait until they open the Princess reg. to book WDW hotel/resort. Then hopefully get an inexpensive flight from SouthWest for the family.

I'd like to do Princess sometime, but I think I'd rather do Goofy again before shooting for the Princess race. It's too far (I'm from LA/OC to do both weekends so close to each other).

But traveling across the country to WDW to me is a little overwhelming dealing with flights, luggage, rental car, directions and a 5 yr old. Also really concerned about adjusting to the three hour time difference even if we arrive a couple days before the race. Race mornings are SO early. Any hints since you did Goofy?

Your sleep will be screwy no matter what because of the time change, plus having to get up so early both days and the long runs, and if you spend time in the parks (plus your 5 yr old). If I did it again, I would take the extra day and arrive at a "normal" time on thursday afternoon/evening. We stayed the week after the race to visit the parks, which was good for recovery since we were on the move.

I spent Christmas at my brother's place in Washington DC, so I got somewhat adjusted to the time change. When I came back to California, I just did my best to stay on east coast time. I moved my runs from evening to mornings, went into work an hour early and left an hour early, and did a pretty good job of switching my schedule (I think I got up around 3:30am and went to sleep around 8:30pm). But there was only about a week between my two trips, and I live alone, so it was a little easier. Next year, there will be a couple weeks after Christmas, and you probably wouldn't want to try and adjust your entire family's schedules.

I also took a red eye out, which I think helped a lot. I got in early Thursday morning, and got to the hotel bright and early (around 8am), grabbed breakfast, and headed to the Expo. That night, we went to sleep at a reasonable time (we saw Illuminations at Epcot, and maybe went to the hottub after), and 'slept in' the next morning until around 9. Next year, I'll try not to sleep in that 'late'.

Friday night, I think we went to bed around 9:30 or 10, and woke up at 2:30. We were kind of groggy, but the adrenaline got us going. That night, we went to bed around 8:45, and Illuminations kept my marathon-only friends up, but the other Goofy and I didn't even notice it. We were up again at 2:30 for the race. After the race, 3 of us finished around the same time, so we went back to the hotel, visited the hottub and got lunch, then took naps for about an hour. My other friend finished about an hour behind us, so she didn't manage to get a nap in, but seemed fine; I'm really glad I got the sleep. We had dinner at Le Cellier at Epcot, which took until almost 10pm, then came back and passed-the-heck-out.

I had considered doing Dopey (Goofy + the 5K), but decided against it, mainly for the 3 really early morning in a row. I'll (hopefully) be living on the east coast next year, so it should be manageable. When we woke up both mornings, I texted with a couple friends back in California who were still up, because it was 11:30pm. Ugh.

We stayed in the parks through Tuesday night when we flew home. I've been sore after races of almost every distance, but somehow being in the parks made it very manageable. My feet were sore from pounding the pavement, but my muscles were pretty much fine. I was a little stiff the next morning, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected (or even what I usually get after a long run).

I joined them just before the Marathon Weekend, and found some really good advice. You have to join to view the boards (and the membership process requires a real person checking your application to make sure you're a real person, so it takes a few hours to process), but it's definitley worth it, IMO. They got me hooked on a couple upcoming races that I wouldn't have known about otherwise!

I think a week before we leave we will SLOWLY start trying to get on East Coast time while we're still at home. This will also make it easier to wake up and get to the airport for a early flight out. I think a red eye would really be too much for our 5 yr old. We also plan on staying a few days after the race to hit the MK.

On the RunDisney site you can sign up for a reminder email--just in case you forget.

I've just started getting back into a good running routine after my broken toe and screwed up my hip, since I ran two races with the broken toe. At least I'm all healed up now. I wish I had another race before the DL Half, but it'll be a good break.

DL 1/2 will be here before you know it. I can't wait and hope the weather isn't too hot.

I'm trying to really work on my time for the DL so I can get better placement for Tink and then the Princess.

Good luck on your training :)

This year's course appears to be the the same as the old one
