I believe the first post was yours and may have had something to do with the Governor of Alaska and our current VP's daughter ... tongue in cheek, of course ... and the second was my equally innocuous response.

Maybe there are new mods here because there was nothing offensive at all versus say a recent thread on another board here where the term 'retarded' was tossed around in a way that made even this Spirit feel a bit uncomfortable (nothing was said or admined on the thread I am referring to) ... either that or The Mom has come over for a visit here ;-)

I don't leave a note. If it's that bad then the manager is involved.

But you better believe if that happens -- and it's due to the server be it nastiness, disinterest, doing something unsanitary etc... -- there won't be any tip at all because by then my meal has been ruined.

And the times this happens is minute considering how often I dine out and have for decades.

Not to play favorites, there are a lot of LPers I'd like to meet. Too bad I'm the only one who actually enjoys July in WDW.
Right now I'm bumming, my AP expires on Wednesday. No trip in sight.

Well that's the key difference, isn't it? In Japan, a reasonable wage for all of the servers is built into the menu price, whereas in the US not even minimum wage is paid to servers in most states, let a lone a living wage.

    <<< ^And that is allowed because???? >>>

It's allowed because it's assumed that servers will get 15% or so of their tickets through tips, putting them far above the minimum wage after all is said and done.

<<< No tip is extremely unfair, considering the fact that they are required to pay taxes on 8% or something like that. >>>

They're required to pay taxes on at least 8% of their tickets, with the assumption that this is probably far below what they're actually getting and that declaring less than this is no doubt cheating on their taxes. But, it seems fairly common practice that many servicepeople pay the the minimum 8% or close to that, substantially underreporting their taxable income.

Evidently that moderator was a prude with no sense of humor! I sure hope we don't have another The Mom on our hands. It makes me hesitant to post for fear of being embarrassed by uncalled for censorship.

By the way what did you say?

That's nice ... of course that woman must be a saint to put up with you anyway!

This is getting better all the time ... I'm still waiting for the prime rib at your place ... and VBDAD is taking me to the California Grill.

We should start a new thread 'Where and When Are YOU Taking The Spirit to Dinner?'

Yeah ... that would be awesome (all I have had today is one small piece of BBQ chicken pizza and a tiny scone ... I am needing some eating!)

Sorry, to anyone with simple sensibilities, but there was nothing offensive at all. And I KNOW offensive!

Sarah's prima donna little daughter. That little girl was a camera hog in the elections.

    Ashley definetly has babe potential.

I wonder if the IRS does any random checks on this sort of thing.

I'd imagine it would be difficult to prove. They'd have to go forensic and/or observe someone who underreported the previous year to see just what sort of tips they actually get (and the cost of all that would probably be far more than they could collect in additional taxes).

It is difficult. That's why they initiated the 8% minimum rule in the first place so at least they can get servers paying tax on half their tip income. BTW, on tips where the customer pays other than cash (by credit card, gift card, etc) and puts the tip on that form of payment, the server has no choice but to pay tax on the entire tip amount, as employer has record of the tip amount and must report it.

I seem to remember that this was one CM complaint at WDW when they instituted the "free Disney Dining Plan" the first year. Although the servers got an automatic 18% tip on each DDP table, since essentially all tables paid with DDP, this meant that they had to pay taxes on all of their tip income.

Which they are legally supposed to do in any case.

    I remember that. Interesting "complaint".
