(If you're not religious, just substitute "good thoughts" or whatever, for what I am about to share The Chandler Christian School has an Adopt-A-Cop program. They fill out greeting cards that have their photograph on it, with their names, grades, and the officer's name and badge number. The card goes on to read: "I appreciate your dedication in protecting and defending my city. I am making a commitment to pray for you this school year." Then, on the back, a verse from The Living Bible version of the Bible: 1 Timothy 2:2 "Here are my directions; pray for others, plead for God's mercy upon them; give thanks for all He is going to do for them. Pray in this way for kings and all others who are in authority over us, or in places of high responsibility...." Just seeing these children's sweet faces and childish scrawls are heartwarming enough...but to know that they are keeping our officers in their hearts throughout the year is especially warm-fuzzy inducing. At the end of the school year, the children get to meet "their" cops at an ice cream social. The officers really appreciate this, regardless of religious affiliation or of none at all.
