You see, at the age of 2 we discovered, fortunately when she was young, that she had a peanut allergy. We rushed her to the doctor's office just in time to give her an epipen (adrenaline) shot.
Ever since, the school has epipens, the nurses, every bus driver has one that my daughter goes on, and hundreds of parents throughout the years do NOT let her go near peanuts.
Well lss long story short, this Tues, 3 short days ago, our daughter was at her friend's party (school vaca week here in Mass) and the mother baked peanut butter cookies and stunningly and stupidly gave one to our daughter who took just a couple bites and blew up (her face, hives, etc). She has been trained not to take anything but she couldn't believe this woman who has known her for years would give her pbutter cookies.
I got the phone call here at the office with customers lined up with my wife, and got there in 22 minutes (20 mile drive). My wife had been on the phone with the hospital, doctors, etc and said to wait till I got there so I could make the calls> shots or whatever?
I literally was behind 2 ambulances once I was within a mile of the friend's house (by biggest fear)--I thought she was dead as I told the mother NOT to call ambulance unless she went into shock.
My 10 year old son was in the back all the way as I was going 80 on the highway. I got there balling my eyes out and my daughter was standing up hives and all but okay as she only had a couple bites so my tears became tears of joy.
That funeral could have been my daughter's as I know the funeral director there and we would use him.
It's a great day to be alive and our daughter to be alive
    "Thank you God"

My wife however, the usual cool one, NEVER wants Rachel over there again. It's stange how you never know how you'll react in a crisis until it happens, no matter now much planning.

I have to agree with your wife on her not going back over there. I mean the lady KNEW better but just "forgot."

I have a smiliar experience but I will keep it very breif. My daughter , while under the care of the babysitter next door, went missing one afternoon. My daughter was only 4 at the time.

Long story short, The babysitter wasn't watching the girls like she should have been, my daughter wondered out the back door. But here is the problem.

When the babysitter finally realized my daughter was missing, she "just figured she went home." Didn't call, didn't go look outside, nothing.

So my daughter had already been unaccounted for for an hour once we happened to call over there to say it's time for her to come home.

Long story shorter still... We searched both houses, nothing. I called the police and immediately began to spiral outward from the two houses on foot, trying not to have a heart attack.

In a few minutes I came into the yard of a new home being built and (no offense to anyone just stating facts) it was full of mexican workers. I went inside and found the boss man who thank god spoke English. I explained what was going on and he begand shouting in Spanish and the place emptied and I now had a search party.

Long story getting long again ...

After 40 more minutes one of the wonderful Mexican workers came running up the street with her in his arms.

She was crying but fine otherwise, the police had called the fire rescue and they checked her out while the police got all of their questions answered.

Anyway it was a hell of an experience. Like yourself, I honestly thought while refusing to admit that she was dead or worse.

It's been 3 years since that day, and we have moved only 8 miles away into a new home since, but even while we lived there my daughter never went back over there.

I am far more concerned with my kids safety than I am someone's feelings being hurt.

I am so happy you have a happy ending to your story.

We dodged big time bullets. You seem like me that your life means NOTHING compared to the kids.

And yes cape cod joe, my life IS my family. "I even tell my wife, Honey I love you, but I love the kids more." We have a big laugh about that. She feels the same way.
