I'm overweight, so I can go up to another overweight person and call them "fatty" or "heifer"? I never would, in fact I would never even describe myself in such a way, let alone someone else. If for some reason I did go up to someone and call them fat they wouldn't just reply with "haha, it's okay for you to call me that because you are too". So I don't personally see why it's not offensive for black people (or gay people) to use those terms about themselves or others. I'm not saying Michael Richards should have said it, of course - I'm just saying others shouldn't be able to either. >>The reason for this I believe is the N word does not carry the same weight here in Australia as it does in America<< Deb, I agree but I think it might be because the N word, in general, isn't used very often here. I don't think it's more accepted when it is used, it's not just really an 'insult of choice' to most Australians. I think more Australians would be inclined to use the 'C word' (well, not THAT C-word) if they wanted to make a racial slur.

The thing is that no matter how you slice it, black people saying derogatory things about each other using vicious racial slurs does not help them, their situation, or the view they have of themselves or others have of them. "the 'C word' (well, not THAT C-word)" God, this is childish.

Like I said, I know he feels bad for what he said, but when he keeps saying he isn't really racist and doing the 'meet the Black leaders' PR that so many people seem to do these days. Didn't Vincete Fox, the former President of MEXICO meet these people because he said something offensive this year?? I guess its good to save your career and all, but still not buying it, sorry.

It's not the fault of this site, but it is utterly ridiculous that we do these things.
