I don't have to shell out 47 bucks to experience them, so I don't look a gift horse in the mouth. No, DCA is not what I wanted from Disney. Not what lots of people wanted, either, apparently. And no matter what they keep adding, they don't seem to work on some of the underlying, fundamental flaws that make the park so disappointing in the first place. And if they keep making the same fundamental mistakes with every new thing they add, then it starts to make the place take on the chartacteristic of a re-occurring cold sore... just when the pain of the last one seems to diminish, a whole new one pops up again and reminds you of why you hate cold sores.

ToT had a huge impact at MGM, with attendance increasing substantially more than budgeted for. It really did steal a march on Universal. People really love ToT and it is the first new "major" addition to DCA. I'll be there!
Originally Posted By WorldDisney I think you have a point Leemac, but I think the other poster has a point too. TOT was BRAND new when it came to MGM. There was nothing like it. Now, it's coming to DCA and even though it is a GREAT attraction, it's still nothing but another clone. Yeah, I know there are LOTS of people whose never been to WDW living in Southern Calif. (my entire family included), but I don't see it sustaining a long-term attandance pattern ALONE. Sure, it will spike the attendance for DCA in ways we never seen and might even get it to the levels the company ORIGINALLY thought would happen in the vacation months, but I think it will fall to "normal" levels when the hype falls and if they don't add anything else. Also, like it's been said, it's a GREAT addition, but it does nothing for the families out there who want to ride something together. They will STILL be choosing DL over DCA I think. But, I do think that the complete lack of crowds DCA suffered it's first 2 years will be history.

The ToT in DCA will be good. Maybe not because they WANT it to be, but because it HAS to be. The suits and regulars know that this attraction will make or break the entire park. One more blunder and the media will ride it all the way down it firey grave. If it's a hit and the media accepts it well... DCA pretty much has a future to remain (if not to expand). So I would expect that the tower will be an awesome experience when it opens. If not... the millions upon millions of dollars spent to improve the park would be in complete waste. Thats something even Disney suits don't want I'm sure.
Originally Posted By WorldDisney Don't take my words the wrong way. Like I said, TOT is a GREAT addition, period. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong adding this attraction, and the fact that it's also being added in EVERY resort around the world at one point or another just proves it's popularity (although I think it's funny how the ride has been there for over 10 years and only NOW is it getting it's props and in a BIG way). However, can't take away the feeling that DCA need's it's own TOT or Pirates or Indy or Everest. A signature attraction that is ONLY in DCA, no where else and that people identify only with this park. "Soarin" is obviously SUPPOSE to be that attraction, but let's be honest, people aren't willing to pay full price JUST to see Soarin (and now of course, it's being put into WDW......sigh) and more of a good "D" attraction. Anyway, yeah, I think TOT will do alot of good things for the park, but I still don't think it will "save" DCA until they find a true identity and ORIGINAL attractions.

(although I'm still trying to figure out exactly when they forgot the above... =\ ) My use of "save" meant more budget wise. Once they see that DCA CAN get the projected sales by putting a bit more effort into actual ATTRACTIONS, they might be more fourthcomming in the money needed for it to blossem as a whole. And I don't mean the X-games kind of attractions...

Originally Posted By ImagineerHopeful >>>You can't figure that out, and yet you're certain this will automatically inspire them to greenlight more elaborate attractions?<<< My best guess as to when is what I like to call A.I. (after Indy). Eisner wasn't how he is not when he first began, and from what I hear gave Indy and some other cutting edge attractions the green light. I haven't been too involved with info on Disney Mngmt. until recently, so I very well could be wrong. And I'm not certain. Notice the word "might" in the lower paragraph.
