Fair enough... but your first paragraph was rather open and shut on the issue.

    Here ya go...:

Just meant that you wrote a fairly declarative statement on its own in the first paragraph. Not qualified at all, really. No big deal, though. You may not have realized you wrote it like that.

All of us know that passholders will be there, and hopefully one-day ticket holders. DCA hasn't had anything big except its opening and LuminAria. But hopefully, Disney doesn't think that will complete the park.

Knott's has a new flat ride, Rip Tide also opening around the same time. And Knott's will also be doing a lot of advertising, along with a special SoCal price.

Knott's also gets the only new ride opening in late December 2004, with their roller coaster, Silver Bullet.

SFMM is the odd man out, it looks like they will have no new ride, so expect aggressive marketing and pricing from them.

So there will be three highly themed rides opening in SoCal this May, and while Disney will get some of the attention, it will be sharing the spotlight!

I'm from LA but haven't lived there in 10 years or so, so usually, when I'm home, I usually have time to only go to Disneyland.

But, you know what, after complaining about for so long, I think I will take my own advice and try out some of the other parks again. I admit, I don't like the vibe in some of those places (and I'm from Compton ;)), so that's part of the reason I never go, but I got to check out some of the action next time I'm back--especially Knott's and Universal (last time I was in Universal, I took a date there who was in HIGH SCHOOL, almost 10 years ago, scary).

Anyway, that Mummy attraction sounds to go to be true--but I said the same thing about Spider-man before I rode it ;).

In Florida it is different where there is a huge pool of tourists with a limited amount of time and money and WDW needs to actively court them to the resort. DLR needs to give people a reason to return to the parks.

Don't forget that ToT is the most popular attraction in Disney history according to guests in Florida. In singlehandedly ressurected MGM from the duldrums. I'm sure at least some of that effect will be felt on DCA from having the Tower.

Even though DCA missed its initial mark of 7 million guests in 2001 the resort still managed to pull in something like 17 million guests. No other theme park destination on the west coast came close to those numbers. Assuming that those figures will increase significantly next year with ToT added to the repertoire, I would predict that 2004 will be milestone for DLR.

So last year, in SoCal Universal's numbers went up 10%, while DCA's numbers went down 6%... So folks are still deciding to go to the classic Disneyland park, but instead of DCA, a trip to Knott's (went up 2%) or USH.......

BUT, to be fair also, DCA probably got the numbers IT did because of all the discount tickets, 2-for-1, reduced AP passes and everything else under the sun. I wonder if they counted STRAIGHT full priced tickets, would DCA even get a full 3 million people?

    Very telling.

Knott's was the only one who didn't seem to be discounting any more than they usually do(and thats a lot) yet it had a nice rise in attendance.

    >>Scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2005, the $ 3 billion Hong Kong Disneyland will have the largest Adventureland of all five Disney parks worldwide, plus Main Street, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, and a 2,200-seat in-the-round theatre that would feature a show similar to the Festival of the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom. <<

Oh Boy, a theater about 10% bigger than the Hyperion, and the largest Adventureland ever built... but where is Frontierland, Critter Country, New Orleans Square, ToonTown......

But DCA has the biggest Paradise Pier area!!!!!!! ;)
