Either way, it sure does seem like a lot for what boils down to a coaster in the dark.

Well sort of. You have to remember that DL's Space Mountain project was not just Space Mountain. It was essentially an expansion of Tomorrowland. Not only did it include a new attraction, the Space Place restaurant and Starcade were added, along with a completely revamped outdoor stage venue. Also the Peoplemover was rerouted through the complex. It was a huge project.

Yes, Disney’s version of the Incredibles used the robot technology. But Disney didn’t loose the technology to Universal due to bidding; they lost it because they failed to follow through (fund) with a feasible design after years of concept.

And Universal may loose their exclusive development rights if they don’t come up with something in their five year(?) time frame.

It was budgeted for $40 million. It ended up costing $80 million. Frank Wells installed a huge number of bean counters at WDI after that episode.>>

But, a few years later, when they put Splash into WDW, it cost around $30 million MORE, and that’s after most of the development overruns in the initial Disneyland development.

Observation: The WDW version didn't have the "America Sings" animatronics to cannibalize.

but my feeling this was always meant to be a nice "D" ticket on the same scale as Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin.

Not the "pint sized" Fantasyland dark rides .. which were rated a "C". But by all accounts .. ride size, 3D aspect, etc ... looks like a solid "D".

    But definitely no "E".

My feeling: Little Mermaid and Radiator Springs Racers will fill the "E" ticket void.
