Jim Hill once explained that some Disney fans don't want anything to change, that they want everything to stay the way it was when they were a kid. Time marches on, things change and adapt to new generation's tastes...try to deal. My brother isn't a big Disney fan like me. He says that WDW is boring because there's nothing new there. This is the type of guest that Disney wants to get by adding new parks and attractions - not Disney Freaks like me. So, I hope they are working on the 5th, it seems like a very smart move.

I don't believe I've ever seen a post on this topic where someone said they didn't want anything to change. What is often said & as I posted before is we want the parks they have cared for before they try to open a new park.

I love new but not @ the expense of the classics. They are spreading things mighty thin as it is I'm really not interested in seeing them drop their standards even more which is what I fear will happen.

Oh well that's just my opinion.

Anyway, I trust that the insiders like Spirit or Leemac would have heard something long before any announcement was to be made.

Then add in the fact that they struggle to take care of what they have to the standard they traditionally have. Then look at the quality of the cast members. It is not as high as it once was because there is not enough of a quality resource pool available in Orlando. For those reasons, that is why a 5th park is not popular amongst long time Disney fans, it is not the change part (heck, DAK is my 2nd fav park in Florida, and I do not like the MK because it is so unloved by management).

Most European visitors will come from the UK like myself where the average holiday is 20 days a year not including bank holidays( of which we have 5 spread between March and August)I am quite lucky as i get longer as a teacher BUT my holidays are all peak times and Virgin Atlantic have just added a peak supplement onto flying at these times. This adds an average of £800 ($1301) to the holiday price as a supplement. This is putting off a lot of British guests as there is nothing new at WDW. Personally, I think a new park would be great but I like whats there already and am happy to pay to visit the classics. However, i think I am in a minority here.

Now they have gone up so much, we are considering Tokyo DL or HKDL for our next big non DLP trip because of the costs. WDW is cheap once out there (compared to it's brethren), but getting out there is not as cheap as it once was.

At this point, I find it hard to believe that a 5th gate would accomplish that, for many of the reasons that others have already pointed out.

People will blame the attendance drop on the economy, but that's only part of it. In order to attract new interest in the resort they have to give people something big to get excited about. Sure, new attractions can create attendance bumps at individual parks, but they aren't enough to bring back people who haven't visited in years. I believe that they are developing a 5th park, but don't expect an announcement this year.

IMO, another theme park wouldn't change attendance much, certainly not in the long term. All it would do is syphon off attendance from the other parks. As it was pointed out before, people only have so much time (and money) for vacations. People won't stay at WDW longer, or spend more just because of a new park.

I do believe they have plans for a fifth park, but I don't believe those plans are any indication that they're remotely close to it being a serious project. Rather, it's more like how they have plans to expand the monorail system. It's on paper, but the paper is sitting in a filing cabinet.
