Interesting as we find World Showcase to be quite accurate, but not in this case.

Yak and Yeti will definitely be on our list if we ever go back to WDW

I have been complaining for months about how miserably cold it is in New England. I was so looking forward to the Disney heat. For me it was very nice when we were there 5/27-6/3. We came home to a heat wave, 4 days of 90+ humid weather. Today, no a/c it's 75+ and no humidity. My kids who hate Florida heat didn't complain too much about the heat there. So maybe you wouldn't find the Florida heat/humidity too bad in April/May?? I really love WDW (maybe I'm blind, but I'm happy) and would hate to see you forever judging WDW from your last visit there. Does UK have school breaks then?

I know the many not perfect things and yearn for improvements but @ no time did I feel fooled.

These shows are what they are, a giant sale pitch. I doubt that anyone past the age of 13 thinks otherwise. This is not where you go for the straight skinny, it's sites like this.

If I trusted every promotion I saw I wouldn't subscribe to Consumer's Report.;)

Shows like these are meant to whet your appetite the rest is up to you to be a smart comsumer. And thanks to folks like those on this site it's within your grasp.

I'll be posting on my blog later the real costs, but to go to WDW is the most expensive resort to go to from the UK. DLP is 103% cheaper than WDW, and while not as big and lacking in some ways, I find WDW does not offer 103% more pleasure. Disneyland I find to be a better quality resort than WDW (though smaller - which is a part of what I like). And that is 18% cheaper than WDW. And we can go to TDL and HKDL for about the sae price as WDW.

So with those options, the main draw will be if something massive is built. I read reports about a return to quality in the MK and resorts. And the real main reason for us to go is our friends in Florida. I do miss Doobekah, Sprit, -em and other East Coasters that travel down. And I do love Epcot and DAK, but they do not not have the repeatability of DL or DLP for me (ok DAK does, but I find the San Diego Zoo a good second).

Maybe if the Harry Potter area at IOA is any good and once my kids are big enough to enjoy Universal's offerings, we will come in and stay off property. And travel in to Epcot and DAK as a part of our vacation.

To me, with the age of my kids, the other Disney resorts offer much better value. And I felt ripped off last time I went to WDW.

If I lived in the Eastern US and could drive there, and couldn't just pop to France, Germany, Italy etc. for $120-$250 per person, then I would probably go more.

The climate, insects, and red necks just are the cherries on top.

    US Dollars
This is based on 2 adults and 2 children under 7 going from the UK and staying in a good hotel at DLP, WDW and DL (cheapest rooms at Hotel New york, DLH, Swan and Contemporary - all comperable IMHO). Eating a quick breakfast (danish, yogurt and coffee), a counter service lunch - main, dessert and drink, and a 3 course table service at a restaurant such as Le Cellier, Blue Bayou and the Silver Spur. On the 6 day vacation it allows for 1 character meal, 1 special show (at WDW Hoop Dee Doo or Luau, DL - The Fantasmic Dessert Buffet, and DLP Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show - though quality is closer to La Nouba than Hoop Dee Doo)., and 5 pins. It is using UK, US and Euro exchange rates:

    Aug 24-29
DLP Hotel New York - $4969.80
    Disneyland - Disneyland Hotel - $9019
    WDW Swan - $9717
    WDW Contemporary - $10,097

    Dec 23-28
DLP Hotel New York - $5783.80
    Disneyland - Disneyland Hotel - $9245
WDW Swan - $13,187 (at least no need for MVMCP)
    WDW Contemporary - $13,667

So when I see figures like these and consider my happiest Disney memories, well I think there is a greater pull to other resorts. I would really love to see this change. We had an awesome experience on our WDW honeymoon in 2000, but what I witnessed last time showed me that it was not just a one off. Yes, we had some bad luck, granted, but so much of it???

What should have been one of our best diney experiences ended up being one our worst (though granted better than some non Disney vacations). But when seeing friends was the high point (which we could have done in a coffee shop anywhere), that's saying something.

Was it aweful overall? No. We had fun. But we have a better time at DL and DLP. And we would like to go to TDL and HKDL. But when WDW is the most expensive, and people who have never experienced other Disney resorts think it the best, well it chaps my hide.

So quiet and relaxing. But thanks. They also spear an orange slice in it.
Do you also know what was in the Yak Attack?

Dave, sorry you were sick, but you surely put the time to good use. I read your entire blog. No, I've never been to any other Disney parks. Don't really want to, and yes I'm sure I'd enjoy them if I went, but it's just not important to me to go. I'm very comfortable at WDW, to me it feels like home. Or an escape from home.

Some mixed drink web site. I forget the name of it though.

Bacardi light run, and a combination of mango, banana, and strawberry flavors. I haven't been able to find the proportions of the mix though.
I also found it listed as Mango Daiquiri, Bacardi light rum, and Wildberry flavors.

I'll have you know, the last few days have been absolutely damn near perfect.

Last night at the beach and tonight at a concert in my town center, it felt like the mythical paradise that all those Northerners move to FLA for.

Of course, it won't last. The humidity is bound to return soon ... and last through October!

As for bugs, well, I've seen bugs everywhere I've been. The worst mosquitos I've ever dealt with are in New England, they make the Everglades look bug-free.

And rednecks ... well, you might have a point. ;-)
