Bear with me on this one, and look at all the photos.

First, the trellises as planned (in the model):
    <a href="http://www.laughingplace.com/Showpic.asp?filename=http://s231432788.onlinehome.us/lotion/pics/SS20090721-BSD/big/P12-0002.jpg&caption=Another+angle+of+the+viewing+area" target="_blank">http://www.laughingplace.com/S...ing+area</a>
Note that there are two small scale trellises, on the upper walkway of Paradise Park. Also note that plants are trained only over the top, leaving the sides open for viewing.

    Now, Paradise Park as built:
    <a href="http://www.laughingplace.com/Showpic.asp?filename=http://s231432788.onlinehome.us/lotion/pics/SS20100414-DLPP/big/P03-0005.jpg&caption=Paradise+Park" target="_blank">http://www.laughingplace.com/S...ise+Park</a>
The trellis on the right is on the upper walkway, but the trellis on the left is in the MIDDLE walkway. It was either built in the wrong place (which seems highly unlikely), or someone made a field decision to move it (very possible), or someone made an "executive decision" that it would look better centered between the walkways (it could happen). Regardless, it now sits in the MIDDLE of a large viewing area, rather than at the back.

The view from inside the trellis here:
    <a href="http://www.laughingplace.com/Showpic.asp?filename=http://s231432788.onlinehome.us/lotion/pics/SS20100414-DLPP/big/P07-0004.jpg&caption=Trellis+details" target="_blank">http://www.laughingplace.com/S...+details</a>
The plants now in place are almost certainly intended to wind around the two narrow supports, and spread out over the top, leaving a clear view out the side.

The trellis, from the upper walkway:
    <a href="http://www.laughingplace.com/Showpic.asp?filename=http://s231432788.onlinehome.us/lotion/pics/SS20100414-DLPP/big/P07-0002.jpg&caption=Trellis" target="_blank">http://www.laughingplace.com/S...=Trellis</a>
Even with the open sides, the top, covered with foliage, will obstruct the view. If this had been placed in the upper walkway, as orginally designed, this would not be an issue. The view from the Entertainment Corridor is not optimal anyway.

I believe the placement of this trellis was changed, and the change was made without careful consideration of the impact on the view.

I think you're right. Wouldn't it be highly ironic if what you said is true and the reason their placement was changed was because of the view?

I understand wanting the park to be a certain way during the day, but considering that the primary purpose of the park is for WoC viewing, it seems that the trellises are just not the best fit. Someone must really have their hearts set on them.

Too much credit, Doug. WDI would have kept the balance of the original design, with both of them on the upper terrace.

    The contractor goofed.

    It's been known to happen.

That was what I meant when I said, "someone made a field decision to move it (very possible)." I was just saying it as nicely as possible...

I have no doubt that the contractor on this job was asleep at the wheel. The WDI model got it right; placing the trellis on the mid-level terrace would be disaster for WoC viewers on the upper level.

Does anyone know if the trellis is being removed completely, or will be relocated to the original spot on the upper terrace, as depicted in the model?

Perhaps one of those things caused it to be moved.

I can totally see someone getting the memo to "move" the trellis to accommodate the water fountain and then following the siteline (and not considering the drop in elevation) and just dragging-dropping the block in CAD that represents the trellis to the next tier down.

If the trellis was erroneously relocated to the middle terrace by the contractor, then that company should be forced to eat the cost of its removal. The relocation destroyed the sight lines for the upper terrace WoC viewers. The contractor should have be aware of what they were building in relation to the show.

I would imagine that a stream of complaints to Guest Relations will uproot the trellises in short order. That is, if they end up being a problem.
