The enormous volume of out of towners, tourists and conventioneers constantly flowing through the ares ensures new business. And GG's central location to the socal population would make it more accessible than their competitors way out on I-10. Whatever they build would be ambitious and huge - not some rinky-dink quonset like out in the desert. By making it big and spectacular, they're luring in outsideers - visitors from out of the area, or "new money" - rather than siphoning off of the local economy. The finances of this proposal just seem to make sense. I'm not opposed to gambling itself, but I am opposed to making it easily accessible by placing casinos within urban areas. But it doesn't much matter what I or anybody else thinks, money talks. One other odd thing - I've never lived in southern california, but I've had this impression that garden grove always positioned itself as being a devout, conservative, church-going, god fearing community. Now they're just sucking up to anybody who waves a dollar bill at them. Not surprising really.

Originally Posted By TP2000 Garden Grove is no more or no less devout than any other central OC community. It is home of the famous Crystal Cathedral, which may be what you're thinking of gadzuux. So I wouldn't paint broad brush strokes on an entire city based on the physical location of one famous church. All that said, this Indian Casino thing will die a slow and tortuous death over the next few months. As usual, the Garden Grove City Council has hooked their wagon to a shifty and unheard of band of snake oil salesmen. This time though they are selling the prospect of a fabulous Indian Casino instead of an NFL Stadium without a team or owner, or Movie Studios Theme Park built by a secret Korean billionaire, or a mega-mall with Venetain Canals and gondoliers to take people to hotels and trendy restaurants that don't exist. This type of proposal with no real foundation or serious financial backing behind it is par for the course for Garden Grove. They're shamelessly good at it now. Although it should be noted that this is not the first time GG proposed a big Indian Casino. In 2004 they were in "secret talks" with Steve Wynn to build an casino with an Indian Tribe no one had ever heard of. It was a disaster for them. They're simply trying it again, except this time without Mr. Wynn. The Garden Grove City Council routinely makes total fools of themselves and wastes untold amounts of taxpayer money year after year chasing these crazy tourist schemes. This second attempt at an Indian Casino this decade is par for the course for them. And the GG City Council doesn't have any shame in trotting out their latest boondoggle. They are quite possibly the most clueless City Council in the western United States.

Short of dressing in drag for city council meetings, could they do anything more to humiliate themselves and prove to the community they are complete idiots? Apparently not.
