Directly behind is where the damage occurred.

It looks like there is some more damage and minor flooding.

We consider ourselves extremely lucky today, and can only hope that the damage is as minimal as possible for the rest of Japan!

Believe me, it was something to worry about.

And there's a lot more than "minor damage" even around these parts (pretty far from the epicenter).

Tokyo Disneyland closed for a Saturday!

Some guests have tweeted that they are being kept in open areas, away from buildings.

    EXCERPT:
    >>It was earlier reported that a tsunami might have caused the inundation but police said the phenomenon was due to liquefaction of soil caused by the intense shaking of the tremor.

There were 69,000 people at the Disneyland and the adjacent Tokyo Disney Sea, built on a landfill in Tokyo Bay, when the quake occurred, a spokesman at the local Urawa police station said.

There were no injuries or property damage reported at the theme parks, he told AFP.

"The visitors have been evacuated to safe places but there are many puddles due to liquefaction around the theme parks," he said.<<

    Thanks for that.

As for me, all I can say is it was the scariest day of my life, and I thought that I might actually die. It's nothing I ever want to re-live, that's for sure!

Just read account by Steve Davison, who is in TDL with Fantasmic team. They also had a very scary time. Just so sad for northern Japan.

(Incidentally, down here OC beaches will close at 5am, and tsunami wave (if any) expected around 8:45.)

As I post this Hawaii is about 1 hour away from being hit by a Tsunami. So if you’re reading this in Hawaii and haven’t check to see if you should evacuate. Please do so now. All coastal areas of Hawaii are currently being evacuated due to the tsunami warning. As Disney’s new DVC resort Aulani is on the leeward side of Oahu, it is under some risk. The hotel is not occupied however, as the resort hasn’t officially opened.<<

I've got to applaud TDR for having great CMs and policies in place to be able to deal with a situation like this at a moment's notice, and make it as minimally impactful as possible. No, the guests couldn't get another ride on Space Mountain, but it looks like they were all well cared for and tended to. I do hope that everybody's families are alright and they are able to do their best in an unfortunate situation.

Glad you're safe, Mr. X. When living in So Cal, I survived the Saugus quake in 1971, which was pretty scary. The big one for me was Northridge quake of 1994. Was living in a townhouse type apartment in Glendale. Thought it was going to give way it shook so hard.

And the one in Japan was quite a bit stronger than the Northridge.

Anyway -- I think I know how you're feeling, Mr. X. Be well. And be safe!
