Or recycled decor from TDL. That would perk up the MK as well...But hey, management feels they have done their work for day guests by offering a few Halloween pins and corn on the cob.

    >>And the guests shouldn't have to watch poorly-dressed workers install signs as they're being kicked out of the Park.<<

    Agreed.

But after looking at some of TDLFAN'S photos and comments I will say this -- most of those Halloween decorations are intended to be seen at night, after dark. Not fully in the light of day.

They go up in the late afternoon for that night's show. Then they come down before the next morning at the MK.

The lights inside them or that will shine on them make a big difference. Theater set pieces that are intended to be seen in darker light simply do not hold up as well under the light of day.

Anyone who's been inside Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland when the ride has stopped and the house lights have come on will understand what I mean.

Good question. I thought that was still intact.

Maybe these skywriting planes are so high and far out that they don't actually invade the limited airspace thing?

As long as I can read "Jesus Loves you" over the MK, the planes are not far or high enough.

I only liked the mirror at times when it broke down and the Tokyo Disneyland name was stuck in the front position :)

Which in of itself is so incredibly silly. Even someone in a relatively slow-moving general aviation aircraft with ill intent could get from the boundary of the restricted area to the parks in just a couple of minutes. Even assuming that it was monitored perfectly, what's anyone going to do in that amount of time?

I saw a skywriter a few years ago writing a martini glass above Epcot. I didn't stick around long enough to see who the ad was for, but I appreciated the sentiment!

As for closing the park, redecorating, and reopening the park, I think it was a fantastic decision not to do a park clear, and I'll tell you why.

Last year in one of the early NSS parties, they did their usual thing and cleared the park. Wristbanded ticket holders were herded into Frontier/Liberty, while everyone else was kicked out. So very Disney for the crying children. All the stores and most of the attractions are closed during this time. So the kids that were promised something on the way out, get nothing, because Main Street was shuttered.

And when the skies simply opened up between six p.m. and seven p.m., and all the stores were closed and only Splash and Big Thunder were open to guests, hundreds of guests in elaborate Halloween costumes were drenched to the skin, with no place to hide from the rain except for the porches on Frontierland and the arcade near the HOP.

Getting rid of the park clear lets a few people between the cracks, I'm sure. I've heard people asking if they're going to be told they have to leave the park, and the answer is no: just like Extra Magic Nights they won't be allowed to ride anything without a wristband, but they won't be penalized if all they want to do is spend money (and, I assume, watch the parade, which people can easily do in the colder weather anyway because coats cover up the wristbands).

But if it prevents nightmares like the rainstorm last year, and if it prevents little kids from crying because they can't get the present they were promised on Main Street, and if it prevents people from being swept out of the Magic Kingdom inside of forty-five minutes in the most unfriendly, un-"cherished guest"-like way, then I'm all for it. I think it's great.

And yes, we smart-alecky Guest Relations folk would look up at the skywriting and say 'Surrender Dorothy.'

I also remember seeing the airplanes that would pull signs behind them.

When did the ban of aircraft take place?

You beat me to it, Jim.

Those things and the banner planes were all over WDW back in the 80s!

<<When did the ban of aircraft take place?>>

After 9/11 Disney used its political might to get that done. It doesn't provide ANY safety from an attack. But it does keep the visual intrusions from competitors away.

And, TDLFAN, I saw the same 'Jesus Loves You' in the sky Friday too ... I just assumed it was a message from our Prez!

If there were things singling out single groups written there, or even advertisements for random things written in the sky, I would get a little upset, but I don't think that spreading the notion of love in the second Happiest Place on Earth is really a bad thing.

True, but I think whoever is in charge of these messages on behalf of Jesus should be told Gay Days ended after the first week in June.

    HA!

I personally don't want to see any kind of skywritten message while I'm at WDW. In my opinion it distracts from the show.
