It's unfortunate you felt forced to do so, though. I've remarked before that it seemed like you had unusually large delays, but even so the system should be good enough to satisfy folks at least to the point where they aren't hopping cabs all over the place. After all, they advertise WDW that way don't they (leave your car behind and all that)?

Fun, enjoyable, well done - yes. Visionary - no.

And we always rent a car. Coming from the UK the US is as much part of our holiday as WDW. We love to visit Celebration and have a meal or shop!!!

No, I don't enjoy M:S too much but it most definitely exemplifies 'vision'.
Mission:Space is bold, fresh, intelligent, big budget and psychologically/physically thrilling.

Exp. Everest shows that imagineering still has something left in the tank. Going with a Yeti theme attraction is pure, unadulterated Disney magic---- but it needs maintenance badly.

I think Disney makes it pretty clear that their transit is primarily to get you from your hotel to a park or Downtown Disney. If I'm not mistaken, the information you are given even states that you should allow up to two hours to get from one resort to another. If that isn't telling you to take a cab, I don't know what is.

However, in our modern world, technology is available to everyone so quickly that it is very difficult to use it to be as impressive as it once was.
Factor in the current corporate mentality that discourages thinking outside the box and wants people to find new ways to cut corners to increase profit margins and just do their job adequetly.
I feel that they have gotten away from Walts original vision for the company at large as evidenced by some of his quotes...

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Whenever I go on a ride, I'm always thinking of what's wrong with the thing and how it can be improved.

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the idea of making money.

Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.

    and finally

I believe in being an innovator.

I wouldnt end it there or else there wouldnt have been anything to talk about in the last oh 30+ years...

I would say the initial vision slowly died when Walt's people moved or passed on- There have been a few that have been able to capture the essence and do great things for this company that I think Walt would've appreciated and supported but those people have been eaten up by the "other half" the money hungry ones..

In many ways I disagree with your statement. The MK was built after Walts death but still remained true to his vision and many of the early additions to the park were visionary in and of themselves (admittedly many of the people who had known Walt were still in positions of power and continued to work to see his dreams fulfilled)

After a recent conversation with a friend of mine who is a CM, I have to agree with you. He was relating a story to me about needing a simple commercially available computer program and after months of jumping through the hoops to get it purchased, got fed up and bought it himself.
Perhaps my memories are wrong, but I still remember going to the park shortly after opening day and seeing each and every CM going out of their way to make each interaction "magical". I still have a strong memory from when I was about 8 of going to the MK with a school group and being greeted by a CM by name (took me a bit to realize it was written on the back of my shirt) and holding a short conversation about my day at the park.
Now it seems that being a CM is just another job and each CM feels that they are lttle more than another cog in the wheel.

Well yes, as long as people who bought in to Walt's vision remained in control Walt's vision was able to live on. But when those people were no longer there, the vision died. It may still have been there for many on the 'front lines', but if it's not there at the top it does no good.

EPCOT Center is visionary (or was) in countless ways.

    Hell, DAK is certainly visionary.

And without sounding like 70s or 80s Disney PR, Walt's Vision surrounded and guided the development of the entire 43-square miles of the WDW Resort ... well, it did until the 1990s when buildout, buses and timeshare became the drivers.

Anyway, while I've seen some examples of kewl things Disney has done (Everest was listed here and comes to mind) I've yet to see anyone tell me anything visionary since Y2K dawned.

    nothing ...
