A lot of angry protesters against prop 8 are marching around Hollywood right now, in defense of civil rights. I wish I could be there!

    I totally agree, Mr. F.

They proudly celebrated that gays could no longer marry with shots of Jack. I was shocked. I live a stone's throw from Hollywood and wished I was at the protest myself. How can this be happening in 2008? In Los Angeles?

I really began to feel like a second-class citizen. I was really uncomfortable serving people I knew were happy that today I have fewer civil rights than I had yesterday. Everyone's so upbeat about Obama being elected but the homophobia that prop 8 has revealed in our friends and neighbors is pretty scary to me. We still have a long way to go in this country to overcome prejudice and hate.

Across the globe. We deal with it every day. It sadly is natural. If people actually stood up and talked about it (and conversations were rational), maybe there could be greater understanding and enlightenment.

Unfortunately people go to extremes, bigots or PC police same difference. Until an informed dialogue can be had, well sadly it makes the process longer and more drawn out.

I can imagine it easily, actually...considering the fact that it is a crime to smoke a bowl after a long day at work.

Unfortunately not many are working to repeal THAT particular "foolish nonsense".

As for me, I'll keep dreaming of a TRULY free world...where people can do whatever they want within the bounds of REASONABLE laws which protect life, liberty and property, AND where religion is free to exist and say whatever it cares to say and anyone who wants to participate is free to do so BUT at the same time it stays the heck out of the lives of everyone else.

Because it's not the truth. If it were advocates of State-recognized gay marriage could present their case with facts and logic, rather than shrill rhetoric. They'd present their evidence that recognizing gay marriage was good for society and let an informed people vote, instead of running to judges to overturn laws.***

    Wrong.

The African-Americans needed the courts to deal with segregation.

    Brown vs. Board of Education

    Nuff said.

(and what THAT says, too, is that sometimes "the people" are WRONG...but the law of the land is not, and the spirit of equality does not take a backseat to a large angry mob in any case)

Personally, I think it's really funny (shows what a coward the guy really is, since he ran away in the first place to avoid debating SuperDry ON THE ISSUES).

Totally agree with the notion that Josh (and all the rest of them) need a good kick in the teeth in the form of seeing what harm they are rendering...

BUT, and I mean this in all seriousness, "god" is not on trial here.

I'd be careful on that one (even in terms of mocking ones' particular, peculiar faith), because if there really is a "god", there is no way that deity reflects the likes of Josh and his friends who want to invoke His name in defense of inequality.

the REVEREND Doctor Martin Luther King Junior taught us that much, at least (and Josh, I don't care how sanctimonious and rigeous you THINK you are...YOU sir, are no Reverend King, nor even one HUNDREDTH of the man he was). Find some humility, that's my advice. Sanctimony never served anyone well (and the greatest of us all, all of them, were never sanctimonious to the level that YOU have been here...take another lesson from that).

Even you, Josh, might still find your way if you're willing to be open about things.

    Butters, relax.

STAY ANGRY bro, I'm not saying not to!, BUT, relax.

This is all about two steps forward, one step back, two steps forward, one step back.

History is on YOUR side, bro. Don't doubt it!

I appreciate your anger, but just remember...two steps forward, one step back...

At some point, the haters will get crushed like a bug (as they always do).

AND, as President-Elect Obama said (never forget THIS either), "To those who would tear this world down, we will defeat you".

Notice how vague he was there?

He's not JUST talking about the terrorists. "This World" is the world of compassion and freedom and acceptance that we have all built.

And to those who would tear it down, we WILL defeat them.

    Have faith, bro. ;)

Sadly, that doesn't shock me in the least (and I'm sorry to hear you were subjected to that!).

THAT is the truth that we as a society have to cope with.

THAT is the reason why the ridiculous arguments of Josh and Elder hold no water.

The persecution is REAL, and TANGIBLE, and the counter-arguments about "gay agenda" and "they're attacking MY rights" are just so much hypocritical garbage.

The truth is, if Churro had rightfully stood up and defended himself and his views, he'd have probably been brutally attacked and perhaps even killed.

Understand THAT, Josh and Elder and the rest of you, and you'll understand why there is so much anger directed towards you on this one. And if you can really ponder and process this truth, you might begin to understand why your sanctimonious comments are so very, very offensive to the oppressed people you are pouring your efforts into further oppression.

Whites did it to blacks in America.

Nazis did it to Jews in Germany.

And it's just more of the same, all over again here. YOU can sit in your ivory tower, but the real world reflects your hateful views a thousand fold.

    Just ask John McCain.

I don't see how I can catch up with the other big "8" thread - I'm 900 posts behind.

But suffice it to say ....

if the likes of ElderP and Utahjosh think they can do their little "happy dance" over Prop8 getting 52% of the vote ...... this war is just beginning.

    See....
if they just minded their own business ...along with the rest of the gay hating groups ... this little proposition would have gone down .. and the things go as they "normally" would have since gay marriages started in May.

Well .. you know the line - "this will backfire on them" goes?????

Well .. now that they pushed this form of discrimination through ....
    it's now becoming a NATIONAL story ...
and it does not matter how long it takes for this to reverse .. what their vein attempt actually does .. it pushes the gay marriage thing on a national level!

MSNBC, CNN, ABC .. all the major NATIONAL news organizations are discussing this.

And it's not just "news today, gone tomorrow" ... it's just starting to heat up.

So .. for those who thought they were just going to contain this within California .. well .. you just invited it on a much larger scale!

    THANK YOU!! :D

And I feel Gay Marriage will be in the futures of other states .. just by the fact it's on a National level now.

    War is here!
