    The California Supreme Court unequivocally held that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry under the California Constitution. Proposition 8 would take away that right – and I don't want to be a party to that.

    I admit being a traditionalist in many respects. Yes, I would prefer that our society craft some alternative term to differentiate marriage between a man and a woman and marriage between two individuals of the same sex. But my desire for this distinguishing terminology should not be a fatal requirement to accepting equal rights for same-sex couples to be united in a relationship sanctioned by the government, if the government chooses to sanction relationships of opposite-sex couples and to grant them public benefits based on their relationships.

    Proposition 8 doesn't do this, in my opinion. In fact, it seems to lock into the state constitution a solution that leaves no option for a different approach. I consider it discriminatory and I abhor discrimination by our government against its taxpaying citizens. That is why I am voting no on Proposition 8.

    God, I'm an idiot. Thanks for catching that WD! My apologies to Bluedevil. I keep getting the yes and no mixed up on this issue. Hopefully I'll check the right box on Tuesday!
