I'm guessing the name sort of comes from the idea that you have all these grand ideas and you are working on it day in and day out, like in a basement somewhere. Sort of like your dad working tirelessly to build that great invention or someone slaving away on a screenplay....or something like that.

Seriously, I just put 2 minutes of real thought on the name of a preview center lol...I'm starting to wonder how long these crazy Disney took to even come up with it in the first place ;D.

That's exactly right. I'm hopeful that there will be displays of actual plans along with timetables for the changes when this thing opens. Yet, the cynic in me has the feeling that the anticipation for this preview center is all for naught. Disney isn't going to officially commit to anything until the bulldozers are in place.

They will get it after Disney uses its storytelling techniques to drill it into everyone's head.

Here in the Disney Blue Sky Cellar, the constant 50° temperature reminds us that cool ideas can only be uncorked when they are bubbly and bursting with intoxicating delight, like California sparkling wine. So look around at some of the exciting, vintage ideas and when you see these plans bloom into reality, you can tell your friends you "heard it through the grapevine."

A California theme is generic in that a California Adventure theme could indulge itself into almost anything imaginable, but to me thats far from being "weak" or limited. The ocean is here, the varied coast line, the valleys, rivers, desserts, mountains, animals, peoples, industries, cars, lifestyles, hollywood, images, ideals, cities and more. Heck just like Ecpot you could do a California Showcase instead of a world showcase on the cultures that have came here through immigration, ALL of us. Think of Disneys California as a mini, Disneys America. Like America is a taste of the world but at times it's own, California is a taste of America and the world but again, at times its own. Where's the limitations on that. '

My end point...I beleive the limitations at DCA have been strictly from their own doings and not from a hard lined theme that has few places to imagine with.

Amen! I actually am quite disappointed with design direction they are taking for the new plans.

Personnally, I like most of them (except Goofy sky school, blah) and the entrance and Carsland are essential Disney IMO. But you are the guy whose manhood has fallen over some of your recent judgements, it falls any lower and you will barely be legal to be considered a man. You suuuure you want to tell me? ;)

But I am totally disappointed that with the exception of the entrance, everything is toon based.

    The Little Mermaid darkride
Tooning the Carny rides (in fact the plans for the Waveswinger look like carnivals here in the UK)
A giant Mickey Mouse on the Sun Wheel
Carsland could have been modelled on realistic cars (they are tooning up something that kids cannot ride) - muscle cars would have been a better route
The ripped out two classy attractions (and a quality restaurant) and replaced them with nothing to improve the theme.

I think DCA has an awesome theme, it is the end product that is faulty, and the new blueprint is a step even further back.

Rich emersive e-tickets could have been developed to celebrate the history of America's greatest state.

When I was a revolutionary on these boards fighting against 'Pixarland', I REALLY hated the fact of all the Pixar/toon stuff coming in if you recall. I also wanted DCA to represent California and not Toy Story.

But alas, DCA finally broke me lol. I guess even though 1/2 of the attractions will be toon or Pixar based, at the end of the day I'm just happy some quality themeing and E tickets are going in at at this point. Under the old regieme, DCA would've been getting nothing C tickets, small upkeep, maybe another stucco land and a few seasonal shows between now and its 50th. In other words, the status quo, so I'm glad at least they are pushing more quality even if its still not very forward thinking.

It's STILL DCA we are talking about ;D.

And the execution makes little sense.

The entrance plaza was about the only thing that was still going to cling to the California theme and still make sense. But even there, they got rid of the Walt Disney attraction and I fear for the Red Cars that, as far as I know, are still in the budget.

But we have all these areas that failed to work as strictly California-based attractions, and the wine cellar/movie thing is no exception. The California theme is a "ruin" that toon-based attractions are being built over. There will be loose connections to California that'll make you go, "Huh?"

DCA will be a much better park than it was when it opened, though.
