And back to WDW, we go. Question, though, guys...Are they dropping WWYC in favor this new "give a day" thing...Does that mean no craptastic banners and no mono puke? Hope so, I'll look forward to that. Maybe they'll kill off BAH, while they are at it. Speaking of things to be killed off...How's about those tarps in EC and the rebranding off Innoventions. They've been keeping it low key and quiet, but I have heard rumbles...

I actually WANT you to come to FLA, Dave. Miss ya and since we didn't connect in Paris last month, not sure when we might. Besides, WDW is at the very least tolerable when the Spirit moves ya! ;-) <<But it is a sad state of affairs. People are getting excited about the possible return of Eo again in DL, and all the attractions on the slate (no matter how impressive the tech of WOC or Mermaid is, toons now bore me to tears and we now have 20 somethings than now think Disney is only about toons, so I do not see this turning around soon.>> I can't believe (of course I can but ... you need some hyperbole) that Disney is dumb enough to bring back a 20-something year old film that was good for its time, but not even exceptional then. And with the way MJ's life fell apart ... I can't get why Disney sees a fit for this even in Anaheim (they'll never bring it back in O-Town). I can't help but think that all the $$$ that 'This Is It' is bringing in for Sony has Iger and Rasulo's heads spinning. But the domestic numbers aren't all that good and do you really want poor George K talking to the media about why a tragic (although greatly talented) figure who had numerous allegations involving sexual 'issues' with minors is being showcased at DLR? <<I am still trying to get a new hobby, but I keep getting sucked back in by the drug that is Disney. I want to see it get better, though Iger has made me lose a lot of hope (though the new Cruise Ship, HKDL expansion, Steve Davison's enthusiastic pitch for WOC and even DVC Hawaii show me they can still do it - but none of that is in the rube trap that is WDW).>> I can't disagree there. The new ship looks great, even if I've been told by folks in the business that the shipyard building the Dream is known for 'building on the cheap' and 'undercutting the competition' (direct quotes from an expert). WoC will be phenomenal. If you can get past the zillions of APers with no lives who will show up every night. HKDL is pretty damn terrific right now ... and the additions (TSL aside) really look great too. I'd go back tomorrow. And DVC in Oahu? Any excuse to be in Hawaii is a good one. Oh, and Honor Hunter's bothans have apparently told him that Shanghai will be announed officially next week. I have no such info. Anyone want to page Leemac to the thread?

Thus far, crickets. <<The 40th, while not being as big as it once was, could still be a unique opportunity for the parks. While I don't think we will be getting 4 E-tics, like we once were, I do think some smaller things will get the greenlight. Maybe Soarin'. Maybe SSE, even. Anything and everything is marketable, and since these "Anniversaries" are just big marketing ploys, I think that these things COULD be marketed. AKA...There will be pins and promos. But that's in 2011...Starting in 2010. In the meantime..? No idea. I guess SM Clean will be the new draw.>> Like I said, nothing. Maybe new cup and napkin design. And I'm sure we'll get endless construction pics from the folks who live in the parks and think that 28 pics of the same construction somehow tell a story better than 1 or 2.

Now, it had been several years since my last visit to Universal and there was qutie a lot of "new" stuff since then. I guess what I'm getting at is...well...what is reasonable in terms of "new"?>> I just look at the big picture, wahoo. Four major parks. What has been added in say the last five years (because contrary to some opinions I am in no way suggesting Disney add E-Tix to each park every year or even one park every year)? The only major (from a cost standpoint) addition in the last three or four years was Everest. Then, we have two 'medium' additions in Idol and TSMM at TPFKaTD-MGMS (and Freemantle picked up a large chunk of Idol's tab). But what about things like seasonal overlays? Phil Holmes killed Country Bears Christmas and made sure NBC overlay for Mansion would never happen. They also haven't ever shown an interest in Small World Holiday. And despite the WDI line about TSMM being able to easily program Halloween or Christmas versions, you can see that's happening like the tales of reprogramming Star Tours and Body Wars did. There's been no new pyro shows. No new parades. MK has 1991 and 2001 era parades. Illuminations, Wishes and Fantasmic are all growing long in the tooth. And new stage shows? They don't even exist in FLA anymore. So, it isn't just adding major E-Tix. But it's adding a mix of new attractions (major and minor), new shows, parades and pyro, seasonal events/overlays and even opening new dining and shopping venues in the parks. That all adds up to freshness. Of course, then you have the alleged No. 1 theme park in the world, which hasn't seen a new E-Ticket addition since 1992. Any rational person might think that it was time for another about a decade ago. And I don't believe Mermaid is that level, despite how PR is spinning it.

Us 'oldtimers' (hate that term but 'purists' is even worse) know damn well that the Disney of 2009 isn't the Disney of 1989. That's why I've said on other threads that I am convinced that Disney doesn't want guests like myself who are right there to remind them everytime they don't live up to their own marketing hype. A rube from Ohio (sorry, anyone from Ohio, picked at random) who visited once as a kid in 1993 and barely recalls much and returned in 2002, fell in love with the place, now goes annually and is a DVCer is exactly what Disney wants. That's why they 'get away with it' ... they can't in Anaheim, even if they've tried.

Sadly, Tokyo is more of a priority once I get the funds together. You know how they love Bowler hats and tea.

Everybody already knows you're a free food whore. Besides people can only say "basicly nothing" so many times. I would be fine with future attractions if only they would get their landscaping back up to what it use to be. Also get the food quality to what it once was. If they continue with a strict maintainence program, that will keep me happy also. A couple of new attactions every few years would be fine with me. They don't even have to be major additions. Just get the standards back to what Disney once took pride in. I really think that is much more important than a Fantasyland make-over at sometime in the future.
