The profit margin for the theme parks division ran about 18% before the economic downturn. Of that profit, essentially all of it was pumped back into the business as capital investment. If Disney expensed capital investment as an operating expense that affected the bottom line, the profit margin would be less than 5%.

Do you live in some alternate universe? Movie studios are constantly being bought and sold, and there was a flurry of this sort of activity through the 90s. Every single studio except Disney was subject to a corporate takeover, some more than once. Wall Street has consistently had its eye on the Disney company as a takeover target because the bankers have long coveted the cash flow that exists there.

In case you haven't been paying attention to the news, Universal is about to be sold off again. This time to Comcast, and I'm sure you don't need to be reminded about the Comcast takeover bid for Disney about 5 years ago.

Kudos to Disney for the tease. Hopefully there's even more in their hand than what they've shown.

How in the world can you decide someone's political affiliation by their post about WDW. If you persit in trying to inject politics into your statements, life is going to become miserable for you here. I can guarantee it. Now, you make the call.

I would, but nobody would respond over here. LP is a completely different kind of animal to wdwmagic. I do enjoy looking at all the pictures over there though. It does get kind of hard weeding through all the post to get to the meat of the matter sometimes, but it gives me something to do. Plus there are a lot of informed, and friendly people over there.

    >> Well, I don't want to take shots at the mods over there when I am over here, but I love that I get special Spirited treatment ... she was all up in arms over me writing a three-letter word for butt because God forbid that someone reads that awful word. But someone 'outed' my lapdog's real world identity and I believe it's still sitting there. If I were Steve, it would be gone immediately because someone can sue his ...well ... ASS! <<

I don't consider that as taking a shot. Just stating a fact. That is opinion you have openly expressed at that sight.

Well....she did tell me Mensa wouldn't be calling me anytime soon.

    >> (OK, that may have been a low blow considering that you are the loyal minion there ... but it was so easy ... and me and the Mrs. do talk about you daily ... oh, wait, she's texting me now!) <<

She is a texting freak alright. I can't text because I have dyslexic fingers.

<<You should also crunch the numbers for return on investment in theme parks. Billions are spent on capital expenditures each year without any gain in park profitability beyond the normal pace of inflation.>>

Yep. Parks should go out of business. They're an awful business. What a drag they've been over the years.

    <<<<

You know Spirit ... no matter how many times posters try to defend Disney by stating info they probably get out of a newspaper, such as:

"The profit margin for the theme parks division ran about 18% before the economic downturn ... [blah, blah] .... If Disney expensed capital investment as an operating expense that affected the bottom line, the profit margin would be less than 5%. " ... and more "blah, blah"

    I just laugh it off.

I've been told by a top executive or two, the parks are a cash cow, and make the co. a HUGE load of money.

A poster going through newspaper or financial magazine clippings have less punch over actual executives whispering into my ear how much the co. is really making on the theme parks!

If only they didn't have to put all of that cash back to work building new things, that would be true. I imagine that 3 out of 4 Disney executives don't understand their own company's cash flow statement.

That would be a felony crime. If you think Disney is lying on their financial statements, you should report them to the SEC. Sarbanes-Oxley makes the penaties for that sort of behavior very severe.

less than 50% comapred to the area he lived in here- and his property taxes are 25% of what they were here.
In the western burbs wherehe ( and I ) lived - property taxes on a $500K house are over $15000 per year

he's living the good life now

I'm sure they do reasonably well now. But does anyone want to speculate on their long-term future?
